Airwar over Austria...1/48 Messerschmitt Bf109G-6/AS 6./JG27

Recommended Posts

#2/2020

First 109 for the new season and first new Eduard G-6/AS. A troublefree build like all their new 109s. But the molded on pitot tube still looks off and like with their G-10 kits the elevator trim tabs are too small. The antenna mast has still no locating pin and the loop antenna still has to be attached to the already molded on base.
Built oob, added EZ Line and fishing line for the antenna wires and plastic rods and lead wire for the brake lines. Camo painted with MRP RLM74/75/76.

Build thread here

The model displays the aircraft of Unteroffizier Heinz Zimmermann, 6./JG27, stationed in Fels am Wagram/Lower-Austria in July 1944. Zimmermann was shot down and KIA in the area of St.Pölten (nowadays the state capital of Lower-Austria) on August 23rd 1944.

another  superb  build, as usual, with flawless painting, congratulations !

I have the Eduard kit in my stash, now it will be hard to resist starting it,

Looks great, as usual. The red gear legs really make this one stand out!

What method does your dad use to mask the scallops on the leading edge? Those are so crisp and consistent, and I think an absolute requirement for when I build a 109...

Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting background info, thank you Reini.

Another 109 in "usual quality" … top paint job!

The red gear legs and hubs are quite irritating, even though I know some 109s had them;

it still looks pretty odd on the model, if I may say.

He uses blue-tac or UHU patafix sausages for masking.

Super start of the 2020-109-year. The spinner spiral kills me! Servus, Michael

After building dozens of 109s, my dad has some experience with spinner spiral decals 😄

Excellent build and paint work. Your Bf 109 squadron must be bigger than Germany had in the Battle or Poland.

There are always additions and models that go their last way. I guess about hundred 109s at the moment...

As close to perfection as makes no difference. Beautiful and authorative work!

I seem to remember that red u/c signified a different fuel being needed?

Kind regards,

Joachim

Yes, common theory about the red legs is fuel with different octane due to the AS engine.

Very nice mate.

Late versions with the new canopy design always seem a bit off to me.

Presume it gave much better visibility but I before the original few versions - always seem more brutal somehow!
