RNoAF Sabre 1/48

Hello chaps

I’d like to throw my hat in with an F-86f40 of 331 squadron of the Royal Norwegian Air Force.

This is the aircraft that I’ll be attempting to replicate. This picture and the one below were apparently taken at RAF Weathersfield, which coincidentally is not far from where I live, in 1961. I think she’s quite a handsome bird and will sit very nicely alongside the Starfighter from the same squadron that I built for the NATO/WARPACT 70’s GB in 2017.

On to the kit. Hasegawa’s very nice Sabre in 1/48 scale. A Japanese Blue Impulse boxing this time. Sorry about the spotty table cloth. It was the wife’s idea!

And the obligatory sprue shots with extras. KASL leading edge slats and flaps. Quickboost seat and Eduard etch and New Ware mask set. Decals will be from Armycast but they haven’t arrived yet.

That's is all for now. Hopefully you can all see the pictures now?!

See you you when the fun begins!

welcome along with what sounds an interesting build.

Unfortunately for some reason I cannot see any of the photos at the moment.

Sound like you also have some nice AM stuff to go with her as well.

Good luck with the build, hopefully I'll be able to see the pictures later.

Agree, nice to see our first Norwegian subject announcement, however cannot seem to view your photos on my iPhone. Hopefully we can sort of this issue so that your photos are viewable to everyone.

Cheers and all the best.. Dave

as far as I can tell the grey/blake images are saying they're .JPE files? That for me is what's causing the issues.

Edit;

mmm JPE saved images are a problem, it may have to resave the images as normal JPEG's, plus there should be a setting on the camera to save images as JPEG's instead of JPE's

Hello chaps

This is frustrating. I’ve had this myself lately trying to view images on some peoples posts. The photos are saved as jpegs on village photos.

Just tried this picture of a spitfire from photo bucket. The others above come from village photos. Can anyone see it?

It seems that the photos are stored on an unsecure server, and that the BM engine stops them from loading. I also get warnings when I try to access the images directly through the URLs.

Yes, the photos are all visible now, shame about the PB logo, however we can still work this all out. I’ve never heard about Armycast decals, I’ll have to look them up.

Cheers.. Dave

arrr much better.

Unfortunately the days of free photo hosting and sharing are coming to an end.

I pay $5 or $6/month for Smugmug, for that I get unlimited hosting and sharing (I signed up for one of their early deals right after the Photobucket ransom ware hit!!).

What you have planned does look nice, I can't wait for the build to start!

Hi Everyone

So I've finally managed to make a start on this one.

Here's update 1!

First job was to sand of all of the detail on the sidewalls and IP ready for the photo etch. Everything was then given a coat of Hataka fs36231 dark gull grey and the PE parts stuck in place. The raised details on the side consoles were also painted black. Everything was then given a wash of Kleer/water with Tamiya black asn red brown added. This was then followed by a light grey dry brush and a flat coat.

The tub as finished.

This is the ip. It looks great but as usual Eduards colour matches on their PE sets are well out.

The rear decking of the cockpit.

The air brake wells and nose wheel well were also treated at this point with US interior green and colours picked out as per the instructions. This was followed by the same wash as above and light yellow brush and a flat coat.

Thats all for now. The fuselage halves are now together and I intend to start chopping up the wings for the slats and flaps next.

Comments welcome.

Thanks

James

Thanks Col and Gene.

Another quick update.

I spent an evening chopping up the wing sections to accept the flaps and slats. This was actually pretty straight forward as they’re well moulded and come with good instructions. Results below.

And with the upper wing half just sat on top.

The trailing edge of the upper wing sections needed thinning to accept the flaps.

Thats all for now. Thanks for looking.
