Completed as much as I could without the nose cone.  Had to super glue one of the wheels on as the glue melted the tiny plastic axle on one side.  Apart from a couple of silly mistakes, mainly paint (wrong looking yellow as well), nose and ejector seat it went really smoothly, ...

Still looking at sourcing a cone 😁  And also need to fit the 'no step' decals to the wings.

Um eh, now that you mentioned it  ... there is still some time to come up with radome tan and tone it down a bit before the new nose cone arrives.

'Radome tan' is that the correct yellow?  The MIG-048 and Tamiya XF-3 look nothing like the correct colour.

I'm wondering if Vallejo sand (ivory) 71.075 will work, as Vallejo radome tan is 71.074

The areas were unpainted glass fibre, with a wide range of possible shades but tending towards hemp. Vallejo Air 71023 is a good starting point.

Cheers,

Thanks Andre, what is that part on the starfighter?

An antenna cover (don't ask, which antenna). The "original" color is like Hook sad "glass fibre and resin", like bleached streaky honey. Maybe the yellow is even a good base to be covered with thin layers/streaks of greyish white, a hint of pink and ocher thinned with a bit of clear lacquer to produce a translucent look.

On the other hand, one might search the internet until a nicely colored antenna cover is found http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/2346.htm

(just add a little dirt / grime to the yellow and you're done)

Thanks Jochen, might just try and dirty what is there.  Interesting to see how dirty the underside of that one is.

Piecing together the evidence: http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/f104sea4.htm

(wing tip tank RAL 6014 upper, RAL 7001 underside)

And another one with a lot of color information: http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/f104camo.htm

(excuse me for being such a nuisance, I just like the 104 a tiny bit and I'll keep my fingers crossed for that rhinoplasty)

The two tone wing tank was correct for the 21+64 but was all green on the 25+23 air frame, well, that's what I read anyway.  Apart from maybe updating the yellow to a not so yellow it will stay as it is after having a nose cone fitted.

Tanks were swapped on a regular basis and weren't confined to a specific airframe. Norm 62 tanks on Norm 83 aircraft, and vice versa, were common sights.
