Airfix (Esci) 1/48 AJ-37 Viggen

Here is my entry into the GB;

Built with the addition of a correct profile nose (Questionable decision) and pitot set by Maestro models, plus an Eduard wheel set and the Neomega resin cockpit set (both very goo decisions) I eventually also purchased a pre-cut splinter camouflage masking set also by maestro models. The decals were from the excellent Moose Republic Decals set.

I have scratched some other details such as the speed brake actuators, thrust reverser petals and FOD guards as there is no detailing in the kit intakes. the model is weathered with an oil dot paint filter and Tamiya weathering powder. I added some further detail to the underside such as some riveting, fasteners, vents and panel lines with pencil. The model has been sealed with W&N Galleria Acrylic varnish.

If I were to do it again; no replacement nose, and spend the money on a Ram Air Turbine set and dropped canard control surfaces as I now know that the model is inaccurate for an aircraft on the ground.

The build thread is here:

Here's my completed entry, intended to represent the P-40 captured by the Finnish Airforce on 27th December 1943 when it landed on a frozen lake. The original aircraft was in Russian service at the time.

My model uses the 1:48 Hasegawa P-40E. The real aircraft was a P-40M, however I don't have one and I'm trying to reduce my stash!

I used a couple of extras including replacement wheels and decals from SBS Models. The model was painted and weathered with a combination of Tamiya and Mr Hobby Aqueous paints.

The finished model is missing a pitot tube - I destroyed it when attempting to refine it!

Hi all,

got this little guy over the Finnish (😃) line....

it’s the 1/72 heller gladiator, I didn’t follow the paint guild as it was pointed out to be wrong, so I followed other builds and decal sheets.

the kit was fine and went together well, any real issues are all my poor work! It’s my first ever go at rigging an aircraft and it’s gone ok, I need to practice more!

here she is, in the colours of the Swedish volunteers flying for the Finnish.

all painted with Tamiya paints and a hairy stick. Finished using aqua gloss and then a matte cote of N&W again all applied by hairy stick.

Hello everyone... I present to you Finnish hawk CU-581. Quoting @vppelt68 the history of this plane is.

CU-581 was an ex-French AF plane, bought to Finland in 1943 and assigned to Lentolaivue 32 in July 1943. Written off in November 1944 - though the plane was already destroyed by AA-fire 24.6.1944, while strafing Soviet landings in Tuulos on the Laatokka. Kapteeni Veikko "Vede" Evinen, CO of 3./HLeLv 32 and a six kill ace, died of his wounds the next day.”

There isn't much to say beyond that. Sad to know the pilot lost his life in this plane. But he was fighting for something he believed in. So I can respect him and honor him for that.

My first entry.

A father-and-son build.

Went to the big hobby shop and came back with several kits, including some I didn’t plan to buy. I will enter only one kit, which is a new release. Went together fine, but there’s some mirrored parts that make it necessary to pay attention. No aftermarket though I did deviate from the instructions and used an electric drill.

I also came back with a whole cart of other aftermarket stuff I didn’t know I needed, but let’s not go there.

Sorry about this one, but how often does one get the chance? And it’d be unfair if there’s only one entry in this category!

This is the PM kit of the Fokker D.XXI   FR-97  of 4/LLv 24 (4.lentue/Len-tolaivue 24) flown by Lt J. Sarvanto and operating from Immolation, Winter 1939-1940.

It has had a temporary winter finish applied to the upper surfaces, ( You can blame the aircraft fitter for the shocking paintwork ! )

On 6 January 1940, Jorma Sarvanto, a Finnish lieutenant, destroyed six Soviet DB-3bombers in four minutes on one flight. Sarvanto was the top scoring pilot in the Winter War, with 17 kills.

A big thank you to @PeterB for the decals they worked a treat.

Hope you like it

Cheers Pat

Wonderful kit, by the way.

One last entry.

Flygfisken - The Flying Fish

A Donnet-Leveque flying boat, acquired by the Swedish Navy and heavily used for neutrality patrols during the war, searching for drifting mines or Russian or German warships trying to capture merchants on the wrong side of the border. The Donnet-Leveque was an amphibian, with wheels that could be manually retracted - the navy replaced them with skis wintertime. After the war she was gifted to a museum, and was recently restored from the wear and tear acquired from hanging under the museum ceiling for half a century.

The model is scratch-built in 1/72, but the engine is from Small stuff models and the prop boss a PE part. Thread here:

Here is my second completion for the GB. I have always thought that the Caravelle is an elegant looking aircraft with great styling, the triangular shaped windows show typical French flair, and even the licence built Comet nose seems to look better on the Caravelle. I haven't messed about with this kit, building it as it comes in the box, adding the missing strobe to the fin and replacing the kit antenna with a scratch part. The SAS decals are from 26Decals - choosing one of the Danish registered aircraft for the model, and the cabin windows are Authentic Airliners decal replacements.

Here is my Saab A21R from F7 Wing, Swedish Air force in 1950.

It's armed with a full load of 14,5cm rocketsand was more or less used as an advanced trainer for jet aircraft bridging the gap between the propeller driven bombers and dive bombers during WWII until the arrival of more capable aircraft like A32A Lansen.

Here are the pictures:

Here is my second entry fro this GB, a SAAB J21R from F10 Wing in 1950.

This was the fighter version that still was an interim type that had a slightly less than one year service life at F10, before they pawned them of to F7 for use as an attacker instead.

The white wings was painted for an excersise.
