Ju 87G Kanonenvogel Hasegawa 1/32

Recommended Posts

My entry is the Haegawa 1/32 Junkers Ju 87G anti tank Attacker done in the markings of Stab/SG2 ,Kommodore Oberstleatnant Hans -Ulrich Rudel from Autumn 1944.

This Stuka has been sitting in the Stash for many years just waiting for this oppertunity .

A few weeks back a BM member was asking about fit issues on some fuselage parts so i removed parts to do some dry tests so hence many parts have been removed fro sprues and coursly claeaned off .

It all looked ok from that test ,of course the fitting of an Aires cockpit will probably entail thinning the hasegawa parts to that of graphine.

This looks like another spectacular build Alistair.  Are you going to get brass gun barrels for it? They make a big difference to the overall look of the model. I used them on my 1/48 build.

Too right Greg , they are in my hot little hands as i type this . I have the Master  model set ,3 parts to echgun . How did you prime yours to avoid blocking the fine hoes in the flash guarsd ?

These guns are what this aircraft are all about and are going to be the first draw to any eyes looking at it . I guess with  your Anton its going to be the undercarrage 😀

Take no offence legs can be sexy.

In this case you could say trousers.

I'm not sure if mine had the holes. I would say the best thing to do if they got clogged is clear them out with a pin.

On the different note. I'm thinking of doing riveting on my plane. It should jazz it up a bit. I've never done it before,

but Rosie is feeling neglected....

I have been plugging away at tAires resin cockpit for over a week now . The depth of detail is fantastic and for an aircraft like the Ju 87  i think its money well spent .A few years back i built a 1/3 kasegawa 190 d and used the Aires cockpit but the 109 has a bit of a black hole of a cockpit so never showed it  off .

Assembly has been fairly straight forward but a little trimming of both resin and kit parts has been needed .

I have used super glue for most parts but also a new product i found in the local hardwear shop ,Araldite Instant . This epoxy sets in 90 seconds which gives more time for adjusting parts into an acurate position . Found it useful for small parts too as they are held in position easily and dont just topple over like they can when useing Super glue.

Here are some pics of bits done sofar .

Im probably going to use the kit instrument panel

The ammo drums are made from 4 parts

The lower side wall part is from the kit

The Aires parts come in two colours.

Thh rudder controles are made up off eleven parts

Next  job is to attach sidewalls to kit parts then get some grey primer on .

Impressive looking resin, that's the benefit of 1/32 scale.  Should look good when it's painted. :like:

Thanks for the post Bob .I have made the hasegawa 1/48 ju87 and the level of detail is far less .Add the resin and it makes the hasegawa plastics detail look soft .

The Aires pit looks great and enhances the cockpit nicely - certainly much nicer than what Hasegawa supplied. I ave to try Araldite instant, sounds like a useful glue to have.

Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter . Yes the Araldite instant gives that compromise between time to move parts around for fine adjustment and not haveing to hold it too long so it moves during setting .

Good lord alistair, you've got your work cut out on ths gb, smashing modelling so far 👍

Thanks Hewy. Its going together quickly compaired with my last build a Special Hobby 1/48  He 115 float plane. Hardly any cleaning off and super-duper locating lugs and pins.

Great start Alistair. That looks realy nice.

Can't wait to see some paint on it. I am sure you will make a grood job out of it.

Cheers,

Thanks Arnold  Its a theraputic kit to build ,nice and relaxing ,even with the resin and etch .

Much progress has been made with cockpit assembled and, painted and installed . Seats to be added later when belts arrive .

iI will let the pictures tell the story .

The sides have been fixed useing my new fav glue , Araldite instant . This let me do a dryfit withe the floor so i could be sure the parts would fit later .

Some halfords grey primer over sides .

This picture shows the floor in place and fuselage sides glued . The black arrow point to areas of both resin floor and kit parts where i needed to trim to get a good fit .

The wing spar is in place to check that it would sit correctly and not be hinderd by floor .

49467791827_fd12dcf752.jpgP1030343 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

Kit radio antenna removed and replaced with resin part . Much better detail.

49467791767_feeca23909_c.jpgP1030344 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

Sides buttond up . Red arrow shows small wedge shaped gap whre sides couldnt come together properly due to the rudder control bar that runs accros the fuselage being about 1mm too long . This was a part i found too difficult to do a dry fit test before useing glue .

49467565021_04cb9a2855_c.jpgP1030345 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

The red arrow shows where part J5 did not have a good fit as it was now rather too narrow due to extra width of fuselage .

This has now been rectified  and i will post some pictures next time .

The next stage is to get wings finnished and make the guns (looking forward to this stage )

Thanks for looking

Alistair

Did you have any issues when glueing piece J4 to the fuselage?

YespartJ4 was too small resulting in a small step between it and fuselage with very little distance to build up over step . I used some SUPER GLUE/TALC MIX  and it has removed step and managed to avoid damaging through that canopy  runs in .

I have been plugging away on getting main components together and now i feel i have a recognisable Stuka on the bench .

I added some plastic card bracing for the wings to avoid wings falling apart when handling

that's an imposing looking model.

I look forward to seeing some paint on 😀

Cheers Greg 👍

Thanks Greg . The long process of painting has started ,just need some dry weather to lower humidity as my moisture trap filles up in around 120 seconds  .

impressive cockpit Alistair - I was toying with getting the Aires set ..but it's almost as expensive as the kit (Revell rebox..)!

Thanks Neil .

The Aires cockpitt set is a kit in itself . The open nature of the Ju 87 shows everything to full advantage unlike something like the Fw 190 . I recon from what you save by haveing the Revell boxing it makes shelling out the cash that bit easier .

The Mntex marsking set is a no brainer ... get one or spend months cursing your mistake  :)

I have at long last got all the masks from the Montex Maxi Mask set on . Not an easy task as some sit across the yellow band around the tail . I hope that i have everything in order utherwise when i take the masks off there could be some yellow in the wrong place .

Started by doing severall coats of tamiya flat white in all ares where both white and yellow would shoew plus a few other areas to add some vatriation to the finished RLM 71 ,70 and 65

I then applied masks and then yellow . When dry i then masked off yellow areas useing Tamiya tape .

The tail markings are a little tricky to apply . The loweer positions of the 9's are as per instructions .

49557181426_90ca248079_c.jpgP1030355 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

To help keep parts of mask together in original position i marked them with a pencil . If parts of mask are out of position it can throw the shape out .

49557414767_878d8cb820_b.jpgP1030357 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

The lower wing crosses on this aircraft sit at an angle to the panel lines which adds difficulty to getting them in the correct place .

49557414537_57ffb7482f_c.jpgP1030359 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

Im going to have to be rather carefull removing the masks for the yellow fuselage band so not to disturb the montex masks beneth .

Now on to the cockpit masking

49556681713_66295cf3d7.jpgP1030358 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr

Montex provide the lower part of the chevron but not the top parts so i fabricated some from tamiya tape useing the kit decals as a template .

Always a pleasure to watch you work Alistair. This looks like another fine piece of model building.  I tend to shy away from mask painted markings because it is very hard for me to get them in place and replace them with my shaky hands. I did do my Zero with them as it was a simple shape. I found if I sprayed a clear coat layer between colours it helped to prevent any bleed under the mask.
