BAE Tempest II - Restoration of the old 2006/7 build.

Recommended Posts

Way back in 2006/7 I built my interpretation of the BAE Tempest II in 1/72 scale based on an old AVPRO FOAS artwork.

This was the finished result.

The model survived very well over the years with no breakages but over time the varnish started to go a bit funky and last year stated to go brown.

I decided that a repaint was in order as the model itself was still in very good condition and could easily last another 13 years or so.

The scheme has now been changed to fit in with current trends,

Cheers mate.

It is a kitbash using a YF-23, an SU.34, plenty of filler and some plastic card.

I have even found the photos from the original build on my laptop.

So ....what does AVPRO FOASĀ  mean?

I know other people want to know?

AVPRO was the company that did a whole series of futuristic project paintings.

FOAS stands for Future Offensive Air System.

Ā

This was the original program that dates back to the late 1990's looking at replacing the air strike capability provided by the Tornado GR4 from around 2017.

Ā

A number of different projects were looked at including newer versions of the Eurofighter Typhoon, completely new aircraft, CALCM's (Conventional Air Launched Cruise Missiles) and UAV's.

HiĀ

Interesting model. Can you give details on the modification of the photo cut of the assembly?

Sorry mate, I built this so many years ago now I couldn't give any details on how I did it. I did start a second one but the build stalled very early on.
