Peter Roberts
I am looking at building one of the Huey's used by the RAAF to supply troops during the Battle of Long Tan. I believe these were 1B's Any recommendations on a good kit for this? Scale not so important, but availability would help PR
hsr
When I built mine in 1/72 I used this comparison of the Hobby Boss and Italeri kits http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/298875-172-italeri-vs-hobby-boss-uh-1b-an-oob-comparison/. Unfortunately is seems to have fallen victim to some Photbucket issue. Based on that I used the Hobby Boss kit mostly but the rotor and mast from the Italeri kit. I also used a bunch of aftermarket. Peter Roberts
Brilliant - exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much, appreciate the guidance. PR
Bell209
Stay away from 1/48 , Peter. There isn't a good UH-1B in that scale (yet). I'm building mine from the Revell Huey Hog, Fujimi UH-1B and Italeri UH-1D!
andyf117
Some great flightline and other shots in this 'home movie': https://battleoflongtan.com/9-sqn-raaf-vietnam-1966-to-1967/ At one point, there's a former US Army Huey shown in a hangar receiving its new RAAF titles - full-size masking and spraying! Peter Roberts
Thanks Rob. My preliminary investigations suggested 1/48 wasn't a good scale to go to. Good luck with your build! Andy, great find! Thank you. PR

With interest piqued, I found and watched Danger Close last night - excellent movie, and great to see that rather than easily-available later model Hueys, they used authentic short-bodied UH-1s (including an actual survivor of the battle for the close-up shots)... ....the documentary (available on the same site as the 9 Sqn film) is next on my viewing list...
