I will be building this for the Spanish Civil War/Small wars builds that didn't make it.

Hello everyone... In preparation I'm going to kind of follow build rules and post sprue shots. Since this build lasts all year this will be a slow build.

As you can see its never even been un-bagged, not until tonight. 1xa9kYl.jpg

Hi Dennis

Looks a really nicely moulded kit, no flash that i can see of.

Are you planning lots of other builds this year dipping in and out of this one ?

Cheers Pat

Yes on building many, so far if my math holds up I'm signed up to at least 12-13 group builds. Sadly I may not be able to participate in them all. The Corsair stgb that I will be hosting i plan on building 3 kits, i have two already. Then i have my ongoing Pips Priller  build where i will be building several for that. I will be starting my R.S.Tuck and Greg Boyington builds as well. Im ball-parking the # of builds this year in the low 20’s. Unless something catastrophic happens and I cant meet my goals.

Very nice,

The old ‘Fumo’ with the Diesel engines.

A really interesting aircraft from a fascinating period of aviation history.

Looking forward to this

Good luck with the build,

Best regards

Hello everyone... well I'm getting my little bits & pieces in order. Im just trying to figure out some paint callouts so I can start this in the next couple of days. I did do the instrument panel today though, along with some other work on a Hurricane build.

Hello 👋

I’m looking forward to this.

I wanted to let you know that there’s a one man business that makes vac form canopies that fit the Italeri JU 86D and E.

They look nice. The Kora (? LF?) masks helped me with a similar camouflage pattern on a Dornier ‘Pencil’.

Not cheap; but I’m time-poor. I don’t drink or smoke, socialise, due to health, so I thought I could treat myself on the above to save a bit of time.

I bought a couple Of the vac canopies a year or so ago. I’m in hospital at the moment, so I have time on my hands to look him up for you.

Also Steelworks (I think it’s them) do some nice aftermarket wheels. He does nice aftermarket for lots of Spanish Civil War subjects.

Regarding paints; do you have a favourite manufacturer and or preference; acrylic/enamel/laquer etc?

I can suggest a few options. Maybe by DM to avoid the

:worms:

this often opens.

I have been quietly researching this and other Condor Legion and Spanish Civil War issues for a few decades now.

Very happy to help in any way I can. Hugely passionate about Condor Legion and SCW/GCE.

Best regards and good luck with the build

Hello everyone... Painted the interior RLM02 today. The photo’s show it a lot... A LOT Darker than the actual color ? Don't know why but i can assure you its lighter than it shows. Its still dark in the first photo, but its closer to this color. 5X2RVeO.jpg
Rather than the next three photo’s.

Hopefully I can start to piece everything together later in the week. My Daughter’s car went Ka-put yesterday. The transmission or engine blew. So for the foreseeable future i get to play Taxi/Lyft/Uber for her to get to school and work. Questions, comments, and or thoughts ?

If I may suggest - the Humbrol 240 as good for rlm02. It is much lighter.

Regards

J-W

Im sure it is J-W but its not available in the U.S. I haven't seen Humbrol paints here since the late 80’s. This is Ammo by Mig’s take on RLM02 and is much lighter/Greyer than what this looks like. My work area is not very good as far as lighting goes. .

Hello everyone... So I decided the RLM02 i have is to dark. My options for repaint were RAF sky, RAF Eau de Nil, Israeli duck egg blue/green, or US Army APC interior green. The closest i think by far is the APC interior green. So thats what i went with. Its seems a bit light and maybe more green & not enough grey ? But I will let you decide, I'm not painting it a 3rd time as its not going to be seen all that much anyway.

I opted to not repaint certain areas that wont be seen anyways. Anyone know what color the wheels are on the landing gear, RLM65 or RLM02 ? Or could the be a dark color like black or grey ?

Hello Tony hoping your health is improving ? Quick question if I may, would you by chance have any idea what color the Wheels & Props  would be on a SCW Ju.86 ? Im not sure if Black or Steel is more appropriate, as I've seen both in museum types and some photo’s ?

Do like a Ju86, can't wait to see this done. Are the panel lines on the kit raised?

Hello Adam... yes they're raised, as Im someone that only re-scribe’s to replace any missing lines. I honestly just cant stand re-scribing, life is just to short for doing that in my opinion. What I do to deal with raised lines is take 800 - 2000 grit W/Dry during the sanding polishing stage and lower all the lines until they're almost smooth. For me it works just fine, and it never really gives me any issues with the decals then.

Hello everybody... glued everything into the fuselage tonight, then glued that together. I think I should be able to get the wings built up tomorrow. Ive read several builds and the biggest hangup is the main canopy. Its supposedly oversized. So I've left the area behind the cockpit unglued, so as to shim it if I need to widen it.

re9ZtiU.jpgThe fit of the fuselage is actually good and snug. Surprising for the age of the molds.

You can see the other builds Ive got going on now. The Priller Fw.190, two Hurricane Mk.IIc’s one for North Africa, the other from the U.K. as a night harassment bird. I may have another one two builds coming online in the next week or two. I don't know if i will pose the bomb bay open or not. I know I wont be posing the dustbin lower turret in position. I think it will interfere with the landing gear. Questions, comments, and or thoughts ?

Hello everyone... Built up the wings today. The wings went together with little issue.

UgE8yJB.jpg

The only real issue is with the port nacelle. Will need to pack these ⬇️ with scrap plastic and filler.K09O6FX.jpg

Held together as a mockup, no real gaps on top.

Or the bottom.

Canopy turned out good actually. Maybe a 1/4 of a 1mm total so it can be left alone.

I will let you decide how it looks. I do have some questions i cant really find answers to so i present them to the Hivemind of Britmodeller ?
1. wheels - Aluminum, Black, or RLM66 ?
2 Props - Aluminum front - black/brown back

3. exterior color of RLM63 in Tamiya, Vallejo, Ammo, or Gunze colors, I cant find a suitable color match ? Ive been told and have read that its similar to RLM02 but my RLM02 is too dark ?

Hello everyone... I was able to get the early sanding and polishing done. I then opted to glue the wings to the fuselage.

Just a little sanding and polishing should take care of the upper seams on the wing/fuselage joint.

The only real issue is the gap on the right lower wing. But its fine enough that maybe a smear of filler and I should be good.

Hello everyone... Sanded and polished out to 1000 grit W/D. I then added the bomb-bay doors, not the best fitting but will clean it up by filling, sanding, and re-scribing. The horizontal stabs are on with the support braces.
BP3qWyw.jpg

Im of two minds on the verticals/rudders ? Do I add them before paint, or after ? It would be a lot easier to mask with them off, but if theres a gap then i have to repaint anyway ? So I think i will add the vert’s. before paint. Questions, comments, and or thoughts ?
