STUKA Blitzenbuild!!!

BIG X

Recommended Posts

Well I'm getting ready...

STUKA.jpg

...I've had this in the stash for about 4 years and it's TINY!!!

It shouldn't take too long - as I'm turning it into a Christmas Ornament.  See you at midnight - or in the morning if I drink too much

I’ve got this for the Stuka GB....ambitious for the Blitzenbuild but appropriate

Enjoy

I think you may be confusing it with a larger kit - the sum total is 7 parts & it's about the size of a matchbox.

So on this brisk Boxing Day morning the ref blows his whistle and the game is underway...

STUKA001.jpg

Here are the bits...

STUKA002.jpg

I under estimated my parts count - it's actually 8 - including the bomb & 10 if you include the stand - this could take a while...

STUKA004.jpg

...or maybe not - if I follow the obstructions - right I'm off to chop and file the bits...

Chopping and filing completed - a bit rough - but it's only a bit of fun...

STUKA005.jpg

Now the 'cockpit' is just a sold lump of clear plastic - what did I expect at 1/144

...and there is no aerial mast or rear gun - so I've just spent the last 10 minutes with a small drill and some pins...

STUKA006.jpg

nearly an hour gone already...

The tail plane section simply slides through - but I did add a bit of TET...

STUKA007.jpg

Looking at the box I could see the support struts weren't included...

STUKA008.jpg

Now I wasn't going to try for two - but I have botched up one per side...

STUKA009.jpg

Now whilst they set I'm going to cajole Madame X into rustling up a little lunchtime 'snack' for me.

Great progress have you decide which colour glitter you are going to sprinkle over it ?

I'm thinking of going for a simple Vallejo Gold Spray - but I do have a very 'spangly' rustoleum copper in the garage - Mrs X is calling though - GRUB TIME!!!

Cop a load of this...

Double Turkey Butties on best buttered toasty loaf with just a pinch of salt - oh and a sneaky little piggy in his blanket - he survived yesterday but his minutes are numbered.

The cup of steaming hot tea is in my favourite Ozzy mug - a present from a customer when I was in Brisbane one time.  Fine bone china - perfect for some Yorkshire Tea :Tasty:

A possible tip from my Games Workshop figure painting days - gold with a sepia wash looks fantastic and it will only take an extra few seconds.

WOW - I'm stuffed now - those butties will keep me going until teatime...

...so back to the bench...

STUKA010.jpg

I noticed the front radiator thingy was a bit 'flat' compared to the artwork - so I have just been doing some 'whittling' - but more on that later.

Things are progressing rapidly - the wings are on...

STUKA011.jpg

...as is the cockpit...

STUKA012.jpg

...the bomb and the prop have been pushed into place...

STUKA013.jpg

...and finally the undercarriage is on...

STUKA014.jpg

so it's time to get the primer out.

The primer is on...

STUKA015.jpg

It's the first outing for the new toy I bought earlier in the month...

STUKA016.jpg

it seems to work really well - such a simple idea - brilliant.

So with the heating in the cave turned up to 11 it is now drying...

STUKA017.jpg

I think the spraybooth needs a new liner though - mucky pup

Whilst the primer goes off properly - time to have a nibble on the old Terrys Chocolate Orange...

I always make sure I eat healthily over the Christmas break

Great work, that spray can go looks a good idea, neat priming! The pig in blanket in the food shot, is it a very big pig in a blanket or are those sandwiches also in 1/144 scale?..

No it was a 1:1 scale Pig - none of those pre-made little ones you get in packs.

Mrs X uses those chunky Richmond Sausages - with 'thick cut' bacon - 10 of them accompany the Turkey as it roasts - she wouldn't want it to get lonely in the oven ;)

Daylight is burning as they say - well actually it's pitch black outside already - so I better get cracking - how long can you spin an 8 part kit for

The primer is dry and the man cave is as hot as a sauna - here is that nose radiator detail after I hollowed it out a bit...

STUKA018.jpg

...just ignore that gap at the wing root - it's only a toy plane after all ;)

and it will push together later.  I'm rattling the gold paint as we speak - so we are on the home straight.

The gold is on and the room is still red hot - so I think I'm just about done...

STUKA019.jpg

...give it an hour and should be hanging on the Christmas tree.

I'll post a shot in the gallery too.

Cheers - Steve
