AdrianMF
I’m going to build this: The picture shows the mince pies that I hope to be eating when I start on the 28th but I haven’t made them yet! Happy Christmas! ho ho ho Adrian
dogsbody
Do you even know how to build a regular injection moulded kit? Are you going to do some fantastic mods to it? My chair is pulled up and snacks and liquid refreshments are near at hand. Chris
AdrianMF
I hope building the mince pie component doesn’t count towards the 25% rule: you can see that I don’t work as a food photographer!* Interesting to note that the kit has a bit of three part slide moulding because the upper cowling piece is moulded top and bottom and then has an additional mould that adds the air intake opening and overhanging machine guns. Is that a first for Airfix? Regards, Adrian (*) or a pastry chef! 5
JOCKNEY
Good luck with this one Adrian, I haven't seen this boxing before, what area are the markings for ? cheers Pat

Squadron Leader Peter Wykeham-Barnes, 73 Squadron RAF, El Gamil, Egypt 1941. I already have the old Airfix Kittyhawk with a shark mouth and desert camouflage so I wanted a change. AdrianMF
Well here goes... Sadly the the mince pies are a distant memory, but turkey sandwiches are still available... Regards, Adrian
AdrianMF
Ye gods... I’m meant to avoid breaking that off for the next 24 hours?? I don't think so: Thanks for looking, Adrian 2
AdrianMF
Drill a hole in the back of the propeller collar to give the glue a chance to escape without gumming up the prop:

AdrianMF
Two and three quarter hours in and the airframe is together: I did seat belts and drilled the fuselage guns out, otherwise OOB. Propeller blows round and the airframe is aligned after judicious trimming here and there, and will only need a sweep of PPP. I am being taken out for a walk with the family now so it’s a good time to let it all set...
AdrianMF
Got back on this at half-past four after a walk and some lunch. All the seams cleaned up with a couple of swipes of a sanding stick and so I’ve added the undercarriage doors and radiator gills: PPP next and then we can do some Sky!
Johnson
That looks like a very nice kit Adrian, well done and well done Airfix by the look of it. Were the mince pies dusted with icing sugar? They certainly look OK.
AdrianMF
The kit is great! I dare say Tamiwagaboss would have done it so I didn’t need a couple of scrapes of PPP at the roots, but the joins are mostly along panel lines, seams seem (sorry) to have disappeared under the Sky coat and the panel lines look suitably petite. And the mince pies were indeed dusted with icing sugar, carefully matched to Humbrol Matt 34.
AdrianMF
Talking of Sky, here it is: I might give give it just one more thin coat.

stevehnz
Great progress Adrian (sorry for the name mix up in your 2019 thread ) & a nice looking build job too. Steve.
AdrianMF
Thanks Steve! Well, my chances of making this in 12 hours have quietly left the building and gone to the pub. However, I’ve got the brown on (five coats??!) and done all the fiddly bits apart from the cockpit. So it’s green, stickers, cockpit, weathering and details for me: Should be done in 14 hours or so.

Angus Tura
Adrian, This is looking great. I have one where I've sawed open the cockpit and filled the gap between cockpit floor and walls. Seeing your result, I'm not very sure why I've bothered. I must try one OOTB too, Alan
JosephLalor
That's looking the biz Adrian. I've a couple of these and I was just thinking I might temporarily remove the aerial by making an angled cut in the fuselage half around the base. I've an aversion to butt joints.
AdrianMF
OK, stop the clock at fifteen and a half hours: Probably about eleven hours modelling time in that, so I’m pretty happy. I added seatbelts and hollowed out the exhausts and fuselage guns. Otherwise OOB! I skipped the stencils because they were all really small and I couldn’t even see them against the camouflage to position them. Overall a smashing kit. The only real downside for me is that the undercarriage is quite loose and feels very fragile with the soft plastic. I will take some pictures for the gallery tomorrow morning and if I’m up well before 1100 I might even varnish it first.
