Intro onto figure building

Hello all, I'm this for my father and potentially myself but I usually build 1/72 aircraft. So my dad is looking into building figures probably 1/16 or 1/8th or something - he has a little experience at it building them in the 90s before I was born but he is looking to get back into it and was wondering what tools and paints everyone is building and using now. In terms of subject, I know he has a Napoleon figure in his draw and I believe a Viking if that will make any difference.

Thank you, in advance - I may get him some stuff for his birthday and if it looks good may take a leap into it myself - I'll get a little experience at figure building as I have some 1/35th US ACAV troops from Vietnam to build (they go with my Tamiya M113) - wish me luck

Vallejo do a pack of skin tone and variations in a multipack, along with a short guide on how to do highlights and shadows. Intended for 1/35, I guess for bigger scales even more variation might be needed, but it would probably make a good starting point.

Thank you - I'll recommend it to him
