Robert Stuart
Thought I'd post this here - I've just finished an Airfix Walrus Base made with expanded polystyrene foam, plaster bandage, acrylic modelling paste, gel, and paint with soft toy filling for the foam. clive_t
That's fantastic! Love the spray effect and the swell. The model itself is superb, but the dio setting takes it up another couple of notches! Nice one
colin
Brilliant, very dynamic diorama

Badder
Hi Robert, That's a cracking little diorama/vignette. With the toy stuffing making extremely realistic spume, the distressed swell and the rich depth of colour you've managed to create in the water, this is easily the best patch of sea I've seen. It really is wonderful. And your Walrus isn't bad either! Top job! Rearguards, Badder
Robert Stuart
Thanks @Badder That sea used a technique that you would find familiar - layers of paint and gunk. Just good quality paint and gunk
sanfrandragon
The sea looks amazing;y realistic and interesting that you didnt use any off the shelf products. The less mentioned Walrus is also superb, nice paint finish and great rigging!
Robert Stuart
Thank-you @sanfrandragon, Off the shelf products? No, but I did look at some of the better ship modellers, and follow their guidance -and use good quality artists materials for the paint (expensive to buy, but good economy in the long run). Two links: http://www.steelnavy.com/water.htm - a short article, close to what I did http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=155661 - a master class, what I'd aspire to do. PlaStix
That really is very impressive - both the aircraft and the sea base are superb Robert!! Kind regards, Stix
Robert Stuart
Thank-you @PlaStix. I'm very pleased with that base, it changes colour with the changing light - something I hadn't thought to hope for.
