John Thompson
That's very good news - thank you! I have no ability to resist anything with "Yak" on the box, so I already own the Modelsvit Yak-1B and Yak-9DD, and they're quite good, even if not the right scale for my preference. So, I'll be hoping eagerly that they start on 1/72 sooner rather than later!!! John
Aardvark
4 hours ago, John Thompson said: I have no ability to resist anything with "Yak" on the box Interesting - why? What distinguishes You for Yakovlev in comparison with Lavochkin, Mikoyan or Polikarpov? If you compare the La-5, MiG-9 M-82, Yak-7 M-82 and I-185, then from an aesthetic point of view, visually for me, the La-5 and I-185 will be my favorites. To compare the line MiG-15, La-168, Yak-30/30D my favorite was La-168, but for line MiG-17, La-176 & Yak-50 I find it difficult to choose between La-176 and Yak-50. The criteria of your choice are interesting. Because in fact the Yak-1/7/9 series is actually an ersatz fighter the characteristics of which are largely due to the lack of engine power and the use of cheap materials - wood instead of aluminum, pre-war all aluminum I-30 (Yak-3) was more interesting functionality and from design view, but, but.... John Thompson
Okay, I was just reinforcing my wish for a Yak-9 series in 1/72 from Modelsvit, not trying to start a new religion or something. Actually I have little or no resistance for anything: (1) with red stars on it; (2) with a single piston engine and guns on it; (3) originally built/flown any time from about 1930 to about 1950; (4) in 1/72 scale; (5) regardless of OKB. Like the Good Lord Himself, I love 'em all... John 2

You read it here first... (We need a tinfoil-hat emoji) John Begemot? There is already the decal for La-5FN on a 1/72 scale from Foxbot Decals. If necessary, will be on La-5 and La-5F. By the way there is the decal for La-5 from Prop&Jet in 1/72 scale.

Yes, thank you - I have your La-5FN sheet, so I'm ready for that one when/if Clear Prop or KP releases a La-5FN. If you decide to make decals for the La-5 and La-5F, I'll buy those, too! Thanks for the reminder about Prop&Jet - do you mean new decals, or the ones Musa included with his kits? I have his vacuformed La-5, but the decals in it are slightly yellowed - maybe that will make them look weathered... I'll have to check to see if I have his resin La-5 (I do have the La-5F). How about some Foxbot decals for the Yak-1 and Yak-1B? John

I've already used one of the options on an Amodel Yak-1 - it looks quite impressive on the green/black camouflage. John

John Thompson
This is good news - markings options for the "early" version are somewhat limited. I wonder if any other versions (La-5F, La-5FN) are planned, and what the status is regarding Clear Prop's 1/72 LaGG-3 series 66 that was revealed in project form a few months ago. John Thompson
I hope I'm not breaking any confidences by revealing the following, which comes from a source at Clear Prop; the new La-5 late version kit has been released, so I think I'm okay. Apparently the late version is an almost entirely new kit! The main differences are as follows: - the new fuselage has improved geometry, as well as improved cockpit assembly (I'm guessing that CP listened and responded appropriately to complaints about the fit of the cockpit on the early version kit) and installation of clear parts. - a new wing that contains three tanks, not five as in the "early" one. - wheel bays have a different shape (on the La-5 "early" they are the same as on the LaGG-3). - new sprue with clear parts, as well as a small sprue for clear "ears" corrections. - given two options for the stabilizer. From the La-5 "early" kit only one sprue with small details remains. John 1
