serial modeler
I want to model the F 15C in the markings ( or lack thereof ) of Operation "Wooden Leg", the strike against PLO terror camps in Tunisia on October 1st 1985. Supposedly all the national and squadron markings were painted out for this mission. I know they flew 6 D's and 2 C's. The C's were armed with the "centerline, multi ejection bomb rack" that held six 500lb mk 82 bombs. The D's carried the smart GBU 15 bombs, but I am not interested in those. I want to do the single seater F 15 C and # 840 in particular, an ace machine before it even flew the mission. I know they carried the conformal fuel tanks and AIM 7 Sparrow. The tanks were developed by Israel before the "E" version officially used them. In fact they were first used in combat in "Wooden Leg" mission. The dilemma I came across is that centerline multi ejection bomb rack. Does anyone know what this thing looked like? I cannot find any references online or on paper about that.
Stephen
I've just looked through the Isradecal book on the F-15 Baz which has a section on the raid. There are unfortunately no pics of the F-15C's used on the raid only the 2 seaters. I would go with a standard MER for the six 500lb Mk82s, I can't see it being anything else and certainly the only other type of MER I've seen on an F-15 is on the F-15E demonstrator 71-291 but if I were you I would go with a standard MER. RAGATIGER
Hi there I was reading that same book today you can find on page 86 an illustration of F-15C # 530 (but also mention single seater #840) both of them with FAST Packs and full air to air weapons (4 x AIM-9 Sidewinders and 4 AIM-7 Sparrows) plus to wing fuel tanks and also a the description it said that was a MER with 6 x Mk 82 Best Modeling Armando
Steve McArthur
@serial modeler The only MER I've seen on F-15s is the F-15E Demonstrator. It differs from a standard MER by being longer to have the ball and socket pivot at the aft end like F-15 fuel tanks to aid separation if the MER were to be jettisoned.
