Luft'46 kits

I'm building a Revell P.1099 and am looking at getting a Revell Horton Go229 to go with it.

What other good Luft'46 and late war prototype kits are out there? 1/72 preferred.

Time to read a few reviews and debate what kits to buy....

Revell did a bunch Luft 46 kits, such as the Ar 555, B&V 194, Ar 240, the Haunnebu flying saucer, the P1099 fighter and heavy fighter, all in 1:72.

RS Models also makes plenty of Luft 46 models.

I think the Revell ones mentioned by @Sturmovik have been OOP for a while.   They were a trend in the mid/late 90's,  and as such are reasonable mainstream kits.

also the sort if thing liable to be hiding in stashes...

Try putting a  request up  in the wanted section ;)

For reviews, quite a few are reviewed here

This should help,  i just googled up "revell Luftwaffe 46"  and this turned up

I know of the Revell kits, but a few I didn't realise they did. That flying saucer is a pure fantasy, I'm not interested in that (other than that bit of controversy over it).

I'm just having a look at RS's stuff and it looks good. Plenty of MeX09 types or small jets like Hs132 which I quite like.

He280 isn't exactly Luft'46 as such but I like it, a production model would be nice.

I'd like to get a Bf109Z but it doesn't look like they have done one.

Wish that trend continued

@JOCKNEY may know more hes organized a Luft’46 group build. There are plenty of resin kits out there but they can be a bit £€$.

I know you've signed up for it. However I don't know if you have read through the pages there are lots of ideas and kits listed.

Perhaps Dornier Do 317 and Junkers Ju 388 bombers?

SH also made Ju 388 night fighter:

Not a Luftwaffe 46 kit as such, but nevertheless an interesting idea of our member nsmekanik:

And, as a bit of fun, here is also a Ki.46/Me 262 hybrid Luftwaffe night fighter. Cheers

Because I feel like showing off :penguin: Revels BV 194 is a pretty nice kit, the only bugaboo is the wheel well walls split in the middle and don't line up that well, but I just used tape to mimic canvas, and my way of opening the bomb bay isn't what the instruction suggest

If you don't mind working with resin, Planet Models issued a good number of Luftwaffe prototypes and proposed aircraft, too many to list here.

For some reason I ended with a few of these and I was not too impressed, they are quite simple kits with not much detail and the casting is not on parr with the best companies. I believe several subjects were only ever done by Planet Models though, so they can still be valid kits for those interested in the subject (that I personally am not and I'm slowly selling off all the ones I have).

Look at the Huma range as well, couple of Bfx09 in there and the Triebelflugel.

Will do!

PM models did a Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/72 which I think Revell re-boxed.

AMtech did one in 1/48 which was reboxed by Tamiya and will be by Academy next year I think.

A few more for you...

Antares Models in Argentina are currently producing Luft 46 aircraft in resin and have quite a range - worth a look! I have a few of their kits and can say that the casting is good quality. Their He 277 is well done.

Sharkit from France (now OOP I think) produced a few (including the Horten XVIII Amerika Bomber).

Unicraft from the Ukraine do a load. Again, I have some of these - the quality is, shall we say, variable...

Don't forget Dragon did some late-war-veering-into-Luft 46 such as the Arado 234C with parasite fighter, Me p1011 and 2 versions of the 3 seat He 219B5. These are well moulded mainstream injection kits

CMK did loads in their early days. Resin in poly bags. Nice castings but not that detailed.

The long-gone Toad resins (now hard to find and expensive when you do) did some novel subjects including the Ta 283 and Me 365

Airmodel from Germany did a load of vacforms but also some complete resin Luft 46 subjects such as the Me265

There's a load out there. Very popular (but polarising!) idea for kit subjects

Hi Everyone

Great thread and difficult to add with all the good points already made on this thread, my own experience is;

Revell - Readily available, well made, build well, reasonable price

Special Hobby - Some still available other were a limited run, some also have Resin and etched parts, expensive

Huma - were available, no longer being made becoming expensive, well made.

Planet - expensive, large range of kits available, Resin not injection, some lack detail.

Unicraft - some amazing kits available, expensive and not widely available, Resin mold quality can be shocking !

Pioneer / PM - Cheap basic kits, well made but lacking detail, still widely available.

Airmodel - Vacform not injection, most come without injection parts or decal, so raiding spares box necessary.

RS Models - readily available, nicely molded injection parts.

CMK - Resin, not widely available, canopies tend to yellow in older versions

Please feel free to join the GB mentioned above, you and anyone else would be very welcome.

Cheers Pat

As most people have mentioned, Revell's 1/72 offerings are mostly excellent, done at a time (late 90s early 00s)when their quality was better than now.

However, avoid the Ta 183 Huckebein as it is a PM Model rebox with very crude detailing (I learned this the hard way, thinking it was a Revell mold)
