#30/2019

Most probably the last new one by my dad for 2019.
Started with an ICM kit but switched to a Hasegawa kit with decals from AML, superfabric seatbelts from Eduard, painted with Gunze H306 FS36270 for the underside and Tamiya XF-82 RAF Ocean Gray 2 and XF-81 RAF Dark Green 2. Used darker shades of these colours to simulate freshly overpainted RAF roundels on the wings.

Build thread here

https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235061874-lend-lease148-supermarine-spitfire-lfixe-soviet-airforcepvo/page/2/

The model shows an aircraft of 26 GIAP PVO, Leningrad 1944-45.

As always, a master class from your father. I particularly enjoy the detail of the overpainted roundels.

Thanks for sharing!

Beautifully finished Russian Spitfire, the markings are very attractive.

Great attention to details, like the overpainted roundels.

(Shouldn't they be present on the fuselage sides, too?)

Thanks!

I told that my dad too but he didn´t want to do it on the fuselage. Let´s say the Brits used paints from different manufacturers 😄...did you do it with yours? Can´t remember.

the 2nd plane in this line up is white 78,  the 7/8 being bisected by the prop blade of the first plane, I'd seen this photo years ago before I realised it was visible!

spitfire-9.jpg

Just ran across this while looking for the above, part of a sequence of photos taken at Abadan in Iran of Spitfire Vb's being prepared for delivery in 1943 od the roundels being overpainted and red stars applied

Note the star stencil leaning against the wing,

58f5d8778a82152ccdd0b9ab5a92504a.jpg

and a chummy propaganda shot of a US and Soviet officer in Iran, but showing the newly applied star very well

Spitfire-MkVb-USSR-EP400-lend-lease-1943

this is the famous photo from this series

Spitfire-MkVb-USSR-57GvIAP-BM186-AD236-B

just about visible where the roundels are painted out.

Note, VVS practice was 6 stars,. tail fin, fuselage sides, underwing, but EX RAF Lend Lease have no fin star, but upperwing stars.   This can be seen on mnay VVS Hurricane photos.

Hope of interest,  not widely known, the VVS got about 1500 Spitfires, most were MkIXe, which were used until 1947/48, though photos are rare.

They equipped the PVO units (Air defence) as they had good high altitude performance., and IIRC, in 1945 out of 81 PVO units, 27 had Spitfires!

Sadly photos of these are very rare, not being front line units, they were not often photographed officially,  hopefully more will become available from Russia in the future.

Build has come out well :goodjob:

cheers

T

Very neat Spitfire, as is to be expected from this particular source! 😉

In 1:48th, though, one would expect drooping elevators, as they invariably are on a parked Spit that hasn't had a stick locking bar installed…

Beautiful model all the same!

Kind regards,

Joachim

Awesome build!

Very happy to see a great example, I am working on one. Ordered my AML decals a few days ago, but may take 3 weeks to get here.

Hey!

I just got my decals in. I ordered the wrong scale - 1/72.

But they look like the same size as yours>??   Are yours 1/48?

Yes, ours are 1/48. Seems the only place where the scale is mentioned is on the decal sheet itself. Found no scale on the instructions.

Size comparison with a pen

Excellent work as ever. Always nice to see an alternate scheme, I did my P-40 in Soviet colours.
