Oh blooming flip its that bloke and his drill again.🤔

Its undercarriage time and again I wasnt happy with Valoms way of construction nor the strength of the spindly little bits of wobbly plastic that made up the gear legs. Above is the bend if you stare at it too long original leg and my hand carved out of 2mm plasticard replacement

Wheel fairing drilled to accept a 0.55mm brass pin

Fuselage drilled to accept 2 x 1.2mm brass wires, the whel fairing was also drilled slightly oversized with a 1.4mm drill to allow some wiggle room.

I’ve got one of these in the stash. I have a feeling it’s going to be there a while yet!

Liking the way you’ve worked out a solution to the undercarriage. If you don’t mind, I shall freely steal borrow the idea for when I do get round to my Sparrow.

Steal borrow away with my best wishes. I tend not to plan things like the undercarriage modification I just look at the problem sleep on it then crack on, I mean what could possibly go wrong I mean right I mean wrong.

I reckon you should get the kit out of the stash I have enjoyed building it so far though I am not looking forward to painting I HATE PAINTING WHAT WAS WRONG WITH PRE COLOURED KITS 😂 although I have struggled in places I dont know if thats me (its only my second kit build after a 30+ year gap) or the kit but nothing has stumped me for long.

I would, but for a rather major lack of space for it to live when it’s finished. I’m not even sure there’s room for my FrankenDornier when it’s done!

I am not sure where this baby will go when its finished its 370mm long x 320mm wide. I reckon I could make some display space if I got rid of something unnecessary like the sofa I mean sitting on the floor is good for your posture 🤨

By the way off topic but I love your railway builds the D10001 particulary as its always been a favourite of mine, I have a rather wobbly 4mm Alexander kit on a modded Hornby Class 37 chassis but it doesnt get used anymore its a bit crude.

Sprayed on a couple of coats of Vallejo Air 71.324 BS Dark Green and I am rather surprised how well its come out. I have previously struggled to get a hang of my H&S Ultra airbrush and no name compressor but after lots of juggling with pressure and endless practice on newspaper I think I have got the right pressure and trigger technique. I am not going to claim I am any good but I think I have cracked covering a good size aircraft with a smooth run free paint layer, now to crack on with masking up for the Dark Earth coats. I have bought some A4 sheets of low tack Vinyl off eBay which I will practice with on a piece of spray painted plastikard before I slap it on the model.

Just masked up and sprayed the dark earth colour. I am a nervous wreck how does everyone do this all I can think is have I ruined everything, will I peel off the green.

I think I might have to keep my eyes closed when I start picking at the masking.

Some spots to touch up but it has promise

Three blotches around the tail but it was awkward to get taped up

Managed to fit in some painting after a busy old week. I used my Dads old Bow Pen which I found in a box of bits I was clearing out after he passed on for doing the canopy framing the first second and third attempts didnt go too well but I got there in the end I just needed to carefully scrape the overpaint off with a cocktail stick.

Glued in place with Deluxe Materials Glaze and glue and then given a coat of Humbrol Clear it doesnt look too bad

After a bit of experimenting with metallic paint to do the exhaust collector rings I decided to use a Sharpie Bronze metallic paint pen and it seems to have come out okay though it looks brighter in the photo than in real life

I have done the undersides but realised after I had taken the photo I had forgotten to paint the underside of the wheel spats

I am still finding little spots that need touching up but I think I am near transfer time. I originally was going to paint on invasion stripes but decided after some experimenting on spare plasticard I didnt like the results maybe next model when I feel my technique has improved.

I havent fitted the props yet which is good as I realised I had ballsed up the painting of the yellow tips. I meant to paint 4mm long yellow tips but I must have suffered from mission creep as the tips have come out way too big.

A small question: Is the cockpit canopy framing supposed to be black and not one of the camo colours?

Chris

I followed the colour chart in the instructions and never thought to check out any photos. Too late now.

As is always the way the things you need to remove are properly glued in. The canopy is not shifting without risking cracking either it or the fuselage.

I will have to repaint the canopy in place does anyone know if I can paint over the Humbrol Clear or if it can be removed.

With a mighty leap by the goalie the ball is pushed past the post and the game is still on.

I scraped the Black paint off canopy bars very carefully with a new 10A scalpel blade. and repainted in Green and Dark Earth. Typically the new paint job isnt quite as neat as the old but it does look right now.
