Rhodesian Bronco

I've just read that Rhodesia had 4 OV-10 Bronco's during their war against SWAPO back min the 70/80"s. Very interesting. Does anybody have any info on this or pictures even??? Standard Rhodesian paint scheme, load out?? Very curious as to what anybody else knows.

If true, would have been a great subject for the "Small Wars GB" if it had gone through.

 Thanks  Paul

"OV-10 Bronco in action" states that Germany(OV-10B and OV-10B(Z)), Thailand(OV-10C), Venezuela(OV-10E), and Indonesia(OV-10F) all received Broncos These were basically As except for the Cs. "......Additionally, re-furbished ex-U.S. OV-10As have also been acquired by several other nations." Those four countries insignia would look pretty cool on a Bronco. As for the "several other nations" you'll have to continue digging

The Rhodesian Bush War wasn’t against Swapo - it was against ZANLA and Zipra. And it was over by 1979. Swapo was a party to the Border War in Namibia/Angola and was fought from late 70s to late 80s.

The Bronco/Rhodesia connection is definitely not true. No photos, no testimony to same from veterans etc. They nearly got hold of some Trojans/Fennecs however.

But you could always do it as a whif? The Zimbabwe-Rhodesia government of 1978 gets international recognition, the arms embargo is lifted and Reagan presidency offers Broncos to Zim-Rho to fight Mugabe and Zanla, who continue the war.

Hi

In fact the Rhodesian Air War do not had Rockwell Broncos.

A very good book over this conflict is the "Britain's Rebel Air Force",

By Roy Nesbit & Dudley Cowderoy, with Andrew Thomas.

ISBN 1-902304-05-5

Excellent read instructive and historical, illustrated with time photos.

They do not mention the OV-10 any time during all the war, nor after.

Instead the Southern Rhodesia had various Reims Cessna FTB 337G (4º sqn)

Cheers

SV
