Aces High...1/48 Focke-Wulf Fw190 V18 "Känguruh"

Recommended Posts

After a bunch of 109s this year it´s time to add some 190s.

Decided for this model, something a bit out of norm, one of the testbeds for the 190C high-altitude fighter.

the kit has a bunch of accuracy issues, as expected with a HB kit, but nevertheless my dad gives it a go

the kit lacks a rear cockpit cover, gonna use a part from a destroyed 190 model

The HB Fw190D family,  has received very little criticism when I have searched about.   The V-18 major glitch is a lack of  a fairing over the side exhaust

this is the kit

Which look tricky to fix.

PS Ironically the box art is closer the the real thing than the model!

Annoyingly, in the UK at least, while HB Fw109D family are cheap, this one isn't, which is a shame as if you are interested in Fw190 experimantals, it has very useful parts, for example

the Fw190 V-32,

fw190c-11.jpg

which has the same nose and 4 blade prop, and no side fairings,  but a unique extended wing.    The lack of side fairings make using it for some of the other test beds easier!

like the V-13

a load of pics here of the V-18 and some other projects

Hope of interest/use

Will be keeping en eye on this! I have one of these in the stash and will be interested to see the progression. Also good to know about the fairings. Might be a little puzzler at first.

Have the Creek/Smith book series too, some nice pics and good info.

Already thought of that too, building a different V version, but my dad will stick with the V18. The fairings are hard to recreate or to scratch-build. Like many other modelers he´ll do it without.

Sorry to hear that but hopefully your dad finds some renewed enthusiasm for it in the near future.

my dad decided to give it another try

used an open cowl flap ring from the sparesbox that fit the HB nosepartmor or less

the upper front cowl panel was like the one from the D-9, so inserted some plastic sheet
