1/72 RNZAF Mustang NZ2419

This is my attempt at the 1/72 new tool Airfix kit. I selected the RNZAF territorial Air Force option on a mustang Xtradecal sheet. The boxing I had didn’t have the required rocket stubs and cuffless prop. @RidgeRunner kindly provided these for me... cheers Martin! Thanks also to @LDSModeller for reference info for kiwi mustangs. Here we have my model then: painted with Vallejo Chrome for the natural metal areas and Vallejo Silver for the painted surfaces. Not weathered much except for the exhaust stains as this is is what the ref photos show.

Done!!!

GjwbFmo.jpg

dkZtaPE.jpg

BO9y9qN.jpg

Would like to add a few notes;

1) Chin grills are decals. I sanded down some of the detail while contouring the nose so decide to fill in the grill and make a decal.

2) "01" is a cut stencil from my silhouette cutter.

Once again the colours of the pictures are a bit off. All the colours are not that dark on the model.

Here's my offering of  Missouri Armada piloted by Capt. John England from the 362nd fighter squadron, 357th fighter group December 1944

It's the tried and trusted Tamiya kit in 1/48th with Superscale decals and a mix of Tamiya and Model air paints

I got the measuring for the stripes wrong and some of the decals wrinkled when the clearcoat was applied (maybe a bit heavy application in places)

Also the kill marking are out of register, and I never noticed till it was too late but that's life I suppose

I also tried my hand at weathering a little as it would have been operating from a muddy airfield in December, but it's still a new process for me

As usual, any comments or tips for future improvement welcomed

Ian :)

Here's my second build in this STGB and it's the Hasegawa P51 from their egg plane range :)

I got it a few years ago, had a bit of time left and thought it was the time to get it done

If you've never built one, give it a go, they're great fun and a real mojo booster

I've never smiled as much doing a build as you don't worry if something is exactly right or the correct shade, it's just a cute little cartoon that will sit with the others on my shelf and make me chuckle when I look at it :)

Airfix 1/48 North American P-51D Mustang (A05131)

Sneebo MC-T was the aircraft of Captain Sass of the 79FS, who first flew their Mustangs on 24 July 1944. It has reduced D-Day markings and carried pressed paper underwing drop tanks. There were five black stipes on each wing which were probably to assist when aiming in bombing attacks.

Done!

Build thread here

Tamiya P-51D as RAF KH727 Italy 1946.

Out of box with the exception of the decals and Eduard Zoom cockpit set.

Decals are mainly Xtradecal with stencils borrowed off another aftermarket sheet as the kit ones were toast. Paint is a mix of Alclad (Aluminium on the wings and rudder), Gunze (Anti glare panel and camo on the tail), Plastikote chrome!?!?!?! on the fuselage (worked out ok after issues with Alclad).

Squeaking in by the deadline - my second addition to the GB!

F-82G Twin Mustang in 1/72. Monogram classic kit built as it came with the addition of spinning props (acetate sheet) and inflight stand (Airfix classic). Painted with Alclad, MRP and Zero lacquers and using the kit decals (which were excellent, by the way).
