longshanks
Time for an update... A few bits added. Skylights added cowls and boxes, hand windlass and portholes. Started on the weathering Looking at the boat at this size shows the woodwork needs more work Meanwhile time to crack on with the base Stay safe Kev

Martian
It would be interesting to see this built in an undamaged state as a comparison, possibly sailing quietly along on something like the Norfolk Broads. It certainly reminds me of some of the vessels I saw there while on holiday as a young child. Nostalgic of Mars 👽 1
robgizlu
Agree with Dan and Martian, the wood effects and the smashed glass really set it off Masterclass in weathering too! Who Da man! rob

longshanks
Hi Folks, thanks for all the kind comments and likes.... I've been playing around with ideas for the base Plain polyfilla Sand to represent stones I'm thinking it looks rather bland.... Acrylic gel applied with a fan brush The idea being that the tide has gone out leaving our boat and detritus high and dry Obviously a lot more work to do but I feel I have a good base to build on I hope you like it Stay safe Kev
beefy66
This is going to be another great little diorama Kev have you tried chalk pastel ground to a fine dust a armour model friend used this on his display base to create mud and sand it looks better than actual sand he gets his from an art supply shop he buys the broken ones there cheaper he uses matt varnish to fix in place and uses gloss to make puddles and oil washes to get some shading. But you probably already know that with your other builds 🤐 Stay Safe beefy 1

Dads203
Crushed cat litter might be an option Kev, pop it into a pestle and mortar and you have control on the size of the particles that you want, just might be worth playing with ? The base looks rather good so far so I’m wanting to see more buddy, just report back on the sand creation PS, Use fresh cat litter though if you try this.
longshanks
Thanks for the thoughts Dan..... Spent the afternoon playing with ideas, all to no avail. At this scale I'm thinking that trying to get the sand texture is a non starter. The sand I have is approx 0.5mm at 1/72 = 0.007mm When you're stood on the beach you can't see the texture of the sand So I'm going to continue as I am Kev

robgizlu
Kev - 2 thoughts (that's the most I allow myself in most days) 1) Chinchilla dust (very fine sand) 2) Vallejo Sandy paste . Dries very hard and is sandable. probably possible to "indent" "Sastrugi" (that's the snow word - you know what I mean) I have both of above - getting to the post office possible within next few days?
