Wheelhouse receives it's wood coating

I think the aft cabin needs another coat

The deck of the aft cabin has received a layer of tissue to simulate the canvas covering

Whilst waiting for the above paint to dry I've been finishing the wrecked dingy. This is intended to be part of the detritus on the tide line

Talking detritus (which I'm often accused  of). Does anyone know of any sets of WWII British infantry equipment  in 1/72 out there?

Thanks for stopping by

She's coming along nicely, Kev. 👍

Sorry, I can't help with the infantry equipment.  There's lots of Airfix, Italeri, & Heller Infantry soldier sets available on eBay over here, but not their equipment.  I did a quick search on Shapeways, but no joy.  Lots of tanks, trucks & Jeeps, but no infantry specific equipment except for Brodie helmets.

Today is the front of the wheelhouse. I get the impression that some may be concerned about modelling this area. So I thought I'd show you how I do it. This principle holds good for any 3D object you're trying to model. Excuse me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.

First off the roof. Two sheets laminated over a curved shape. Held in place and beams laminated in situ

In this case I started with the front window. It's easy to establish its size and shape from plans. We need to hold it in position and at the right angle.

This is attached to the model with PVA or dots of CA glue both of which are easy to break the joint afterwards

Roof to check alignment

Plastic or cardboard templates can be marked/whittled to fit each side as were working with two fixed edges. I use plastic strip rather than a measure to mark the window frames

The two wing windows

Windows fitted . Shown before any cleanup

Hope this is of some use

I must have missed it ... where do the eggs go?

Seriously, making a structure like your wheelhouse, with all those angles, is always a challenge.  Well done, Kev! :speak_cool:

Very nice, Kev! 👍

Those props are sweet.  I've never seen anyone make them like that.  What material did you use to fill in the blades?

My thoughts exactly John!

Kev - Mr de Bono would be exceptionally proud of you

Cracking end result and thanks for the explanation on the window inserts

I must admit you had me worried/confused there for a while. Why would you compare me to a Consultant Gynaecologist??

Then I looked further down the Google page💡.....

Thanks for your comments

Hi Kev

Apologies for being slow to respond...(real life getting in the way), but try Dan Taylor’s British Infantry equipment set (www.dantaylormodelworks.co.uk).  They’re 1/76 scale.
