Beard
On checking my stash, I find I have three Matchbox Lysanders and fancy making something other than a MkII so my question is: how easy is it to convert to a Mercury-engined variant? dogsbody
You would need a whole new cowl and engine. Chris 2
Beard
Thanks Chris. My failing eyesight (I now wear two pairs of glasses when working, a lá Steve Fletcher of The Repair Shop) means I had difficulty working seeing the bumps on the Mercury cowling; that drawing makes the differences clear. I reckon a scrap Blenheim I cowling would do the job and provide the correct engine. What do the rest of you think?

Work In Progress
Matchbox ones sell quite strongly these days if they are in good condition, and especially in early boxes, so you might consider selling the best one of the three you have, and putting to the money to the new Dora Wings III Don't forget you also need to change to the more rounded tailplane for a I or III. If this means nothing to you have a look at the Dora Wings sprues as that kit comes with both patterns Edited November 28, 2019 by Work In Progress 2

Mind you, it’s pretty expensive and doesn’t seem to be readily available after my quick search. Kitbashing across from a (Frog/Revell) Blenheim is probably cheaper. I did just that to convert a Frog/Eastern Express Miles Master to a MkII variant.
Work In Progress
Also from what it looks like on Scalemates it omits the tailplanes, so you still need some hand-crafting there.
72modeler
IIRC Pavla also did a 1/72 Lysander- the the links below for two reviews; I don't have one, so I can't comment on the accuracy of the reviews- you know how that goes! I would think the Dora Wings kit would be the class of the field- I hope it's better than their P-63 Kingcobras were, but that's another forum topic discussion. phat trev
I am wanting to scratch build the interior for my (same) Matchbox Lysander, albeit a Mk.II. Looking for some clear 1/72 plans of the structure. It’s a shame there is no airwaves etch for this kit!?

Shouldn't be too hard to find a copy. Also a follow up article the following month with a 3D cutaway drawing. Contents cover everything you might want to shove into a 1/72nd kit................. The tailplane looks like it could be sorted with a bit of sanding. On 28 November 2019 at 9:28 PM, airbus said: Use existing set:Kora models DS7250 Westland Lysander I,III cheers P. Beard
I forgot to thank everyone who replied. I think I'll be going down the route of using a spare Blenheim cowling. Just need to get my hands on one or two now.

OneEighthBit
I use the S.B.S Resin Bristol Blenheim engine detail set when I converted my Frog Miles Master Mk.III to a Mk.II GT. The Mercury engine was really nicely detailed, far better than anything I could have achieved from kit bashing. 1
