Albatros W.4, Eduard 1/48

Albatros W.4, Eduard 1/48

My model number 5 of 2019 is finished, after a light weathering I think it is finished now.

This float plane is a Albatros W.4, as flown at Baltic sea at "Seeflugstation Windau".

The kit is a very fine Eduards Profipack with PE, mask and decals, released 2003. I added a wooden screw, some brass parts, Gaspatch turnbuckles of different type and a Vector resin engine. I used paints by Alclad, MRP, Gunze, oils and pastels for weathering.
The build was pure fun, with a lot of added details!

And now the pictures!

Is the pattern on the uppers painted?

No, this are decals printed by Eduard and part of the kit. I only toned the colors a bit down with high diluted paint. And I shadowed after that the ribs, using a "moving mask", since I avoided to mask on top of the decals.

Frank

Perhaps I missed it above, but could tell us what you used for the rigging?  It looks terrific.

I used the Gaspatch metal turnbuckles of type Albatros (for an Albatros :D), A, C, "One End" and "Anchor Points". See http://www.gaspatchmodels.com/products/metal-turnbuckles-48.html

For the ropes I used here a "non-functional" rigging, that means a rubber product "Rig that thing" found in a ebay shop. That has the advantage that the lines are always straight, but do not give additional strength to the model. I'm not sure how long this will work with UV light by sun, but I think my glass cabinet protects.

If that strength is needed (functional rigging) the I used on my other models a very fine fishing line.

In both cases the mounting is done with 0.4mm brass pipes (available from Albion) cut into short pieces.

Cheers,

Frank
