Italeri KC-130J Harvest Hawk

Romeo Alpha Yankee

Recommended Posts

My first entry is one the Herc builds that has stalled a while ago.

I am converting an Italeri KC-130F to KC-130J Harvest Hawk with the addition of some aftermarket resin from Jen's Bits, Hamilton Hobbies and Attack Squadron and scratch building.

As it stood before last weekend.

Progress!

Pitot probe production line (for 3 C-130Js), probably not totally accurate but some adjusting will occur when installed

Fitted and forward ECS intake position corrected

The duck tail is too long for the KC-130J so some adjustment was required

and sensors attached, again not accurate as I could not find any good enough images from the right angle for correct placement of the sensors

Final antennas and ramp bumper (which Italeri has omitted from all their C-130 kits) installed and now it is time for some paint,

Goodness me Ray, that is looking the business.

I couldn't help but notice the fly away comment of 3 x C130's !

Now may i ask do you have a hanger of your own to keep them in ?

cheers Pat

Certainly Pat, they go in the hangar next to my 4 completed P-3 Orions, 2 completed C-130s, the A400M, 2 KC-135s, a E-3D and B707. My in work C-17, 2 more P-3s and E-8 (B707) will go in the hangar next door :D

Here are my rather messy display cases and shelves in my modelling room as they are at the moment. Once the part finished builds are in fact finished I will reorganise them and try and tier and group them a little better. There is a mix of 1/72 and 1/144 on the upper shelves.

There is also one more display case in another room which I forgot to photograph containing some armour and more 1/72 small aircraft.

EDIT: Added a picture of the other display case, and look another P-3 Orion build!

I was pointed in the direction of a better shot of the ducks tail so I decided to modify it again. I found a resin duck tail for a RAAF C-130H and it had a similar config to the image, so I cut it up and attached it. I have since sanded the excess putty added the a coupleof more outermost bumps to it as well.

Also started some paint

and then masking of the walkways

I almost forgot that the 2 exhausts on right wing had not been fitted, so I tended to those. These are a set a mate made up to replace the inaccurate Italeri versions

Then the painting was started, After some touch ups I need to mask off and paint the metallic parts, and black exhaust areas. The external tanks are also in the paint shop and I need to start masking up the camo pattern on those.

I just caught up Ray.

Now much further away from you than before.

It’s great to see that you’re still making the big ones 👍.

My wife was on the last 737-800 allowed out of the airport the day that the C-130 tragedy occurred.

I have had a part built Italeri on top of a shelf back in Oz for years.

Waiting for one of the aftermarket sets to appear to build one of the NZ based Antarctic transport/research aircraft.

Now I’m having a serious rethink about changing plans; making the water bomber as a tribute.

Therefore, I have enjoyed watching your progress and learning more about Italeri’s little quirks and omissions.

Big modifications needed for the water bomber, but I think another Ray (Southern Sky) or Someone similar may be able to help.

I Hope that you’re safe and stay safe. 🙏 🔥.

Great progress here and a really impressive set of large aircraft models.

Wish I could have seen them and you whilst over there. Still time yet 👍

I will upload a private aircraft take off video soon, of a big local aircraft taking off nearby. My wife took it. Send you the link via DM; right up your street.

All the best

Thanks Tony,

I have plans for a water Bomber as well. I have decals for an older US machine (C-130A) that was used in France. I have an older Airifx original mould that I have started the cockpit on.

The mods for a current Coulson C-130 are not that hard, You only really need to sort out the dump mechanism and the decals of course. Other wise it is a straight C-130H.

I will not be getting this one finished before the deadline as I am 1300kms away from the kit at the moment and won't be back home until the 4th.

But I am having a good run with it so I should get it finished in the next couple of weeks.

I have been getting to this one when I can, I have finally got the under wing stores painted and attached.

Some more painting and wheel well doors to go. I may have to redo the black areas under the wings, I don't think the shape of the black area is quite right.
