Pagey
A lot of firsts with this build First ever diorama (not going to be my last, I really enjoyed it) first time building my own base and using sculptamold (again, not going to be my last!) First time adding bullet, flak and shell damage to an aircraft and cutting off the wing was a scary prospect first time using Mig chipping fluid, which was used for the broken off engine. Build log for Aircraft can be found at Build log for the diorama can be found at On with the pics. hope you all enjoy. I have realised since these pics were taken that I have hung the crew access door the wrong way round. This has since been sorted. Looking forward to displaying this with the club next year 20191117_124301 by Richard Page, on Flickr Burnt out engine, prop has been feathered 20191117_124426 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124325 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124646 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124332 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191116_144503 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124347 by Richard Page, on Flickr Two mechanics deciding there is no way to fix the engine! 20191117_124352 by Richard Page, on Flickr20191117_124544 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124619 by Richard Page, on Flickr20191117_124315 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124814_001 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124506 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124522 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124527 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124501 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124615 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124604 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124533 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124448 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124434 by Richard Page, on Flickr20191117_124634 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124319 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124325 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124439 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124748 by Richard Page, on Flickr 20191117_124518 by Richard Page, on Flickr

Badder
A fantastic result Pagey. Creating heavy damage on any model is always a bit risky, but yours looks pretty realistic to me. The ruts under the plane are exceptionally good. Congratulations on a great dio! Rearguards, Badder

kapam
Excellent, I love it! Reminds me of the great Shep Paine's work with Monogram's 1/48 B-17G (back in the late 70's as I recall). All your battle damage looks spot-on to me!
Pagey
Thanks guys, badders, that is certainly praise coming from someone with your skills. The ruts came out a lot better than I could have expected. The shep paine diorama was certainly an influence, I had two of the monogram 1/48 kits when I was younger and I tried to copy the supplement to disastrous results. Always had it in the back of my mind to try and do it justice one day
TEXANTOMCAT
I thought immediately of Shep too! Great work!
Harry_the_Spider
It look scarily real. Did the crew survive?
Toryu
Superb job! The damaged plane, the jeep, the figures and the overall setting - everything is very nicely modelled. You have a natural gift for diorama-bulding. If you add a pattern of dark sealing-stripes in order to create separate panels on the concrete part of the base it would look even more realistic. I draw the pattern with a pencil, then engrave the lines with my Dremel using a small drill, and finally fill the furrows with a dark grey acryl colour and some modelling grass flakes at the intersections. Check other dioramas and you'll see many examples. Cheers, Michael
Vince1159
That's a lovely job,it reminds me of a dio that used to be on here called 'Baby be Brave' which was the recovery of a B-17...I hope whoever did it sees this and could repost it.... clive_t
Superb, I would not have believed this to be your first dio had you not said so! I think, just a light covering of matt varnish on the figures (to take the shine off them) would be the only thing I could offer in terms of a potential improvement. Well done sir! Pagey
Thanks Clive. Think both the figures and jeeps need a Matt coat got too excited to finish it. Will Matt coat them when I break the varnish out for another project

sanfrandragon
This is awesome work! Those B-17s could really take a lot of damage. I like the gouges in the turf with embedded pieces of the aircraft and the way you have bent the props, as well as the bullet holes and the damaged interior around the gunners position - there's so much to appreciate. Well done.
Pagey
Thanks Sanfrandragon. It was a lot of fun. Props bent by holding it above a candle and bending the props back when they had softened. The trick was not to get too close to the candle! Tim R-T-C
Superbly done. I think every modeller has an idea like this, but it is so hard to make it look good, few people try. Takes a lot of work to believably 'break' a plane.
