Marlin
Hi. I'm about to start the last build for the year. 'm going to build Kinetics new F-104G Starfighter. It'll be a Luftwaffe maschine 24+95 from JaboG 31 in 1983 as of this picture. All information about this aircraft can be found here. http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/2495.htm And this is what I have to work woth. Kinetic (Gold) 1/48 078 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 079 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 080 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Three grey sprues, one smaller with clear parts, a small PE sheet and decal for three individuals. The sprue look nice and clean an free from any flash. 081 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The riveting are nicely reproduced. 082 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Lots of fine details everywhere. 083 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 084 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 085 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 086 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Both early and late wheels are included. 087 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Nice and stable looking undercarriage. 088 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Not much of ordnance is included. 089 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Just wingtip tanks, drop tanks and a pair of AIM-9B Sidewinders. Two sets of ejection seats. 089 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Two variants of exhausts 091 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 2 AIM-9B Sidewinders 092 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll not use the kit decals. I'm going to use Daco's set of full decals and stencils on this one. 093 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And of course a pitot tube from Master, and something more interesting than drop tanks under the wings. 4 Matra Samp 25ED bombs on twin store carriers from Wingman 094 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 095 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 096 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 097 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And with this the build is started. Duncan B
I'll be following this one as I have gazed inside the box of these kits many times and wondered if I should take one out of stock to do a 'promotional build' on. I look forward to seeing your updates. Duncan B

bar side
Used to love the Starfighter displays at 80s airshows. German, Italian, Dutch and more so wanted to build a G for a while. Was interested to see that Kinetic launched their kit so keen to see how it builds up. Looks nice in the box

Rui Silva
Hi Bosse, I'll be following your WIP with great interest, I bought Kinetic's kit, the DACO decal sheet and Eduard's Kormoran 1 and AIM-9B Sidewinder resin sets to model a Marineflieger F-104G with anti-ship missiles. The kit's decal sheet lacks in stencilling; the DACO decal sheet, although a bit expensive, seems to have all the stencilling and of being of excellent quality. Keep working and posting! exdraken
Very nice project! I'd go with a green splitter scheme.... In respect to you choice of loadout, congrats! That sounds fit for purpose! How are the kit decals in comparison? But do not complain what Kinetic provides! Hasegawa has wingtip tanks, pylons and the cannon opening Cheers!
Kallisti
I've got this kit, it looks lovely and I plan to do mine in all white with Spectrum logos on the side... I've even managed to get hold of a 1:48 scale female pilot figure...
Marlin
Thanks Gents. This is my first Starfighter in 1/48. But it will not be the last one. This one will be in Norm72, but I'll do the Norm83 and Marine later on. I actually have a Eduard/Hasegawa in the stash to do the Marine one. That one might be a contender for next years "In the Navy GB" Today I've primed all small parts. 098 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Then I started to glue things together. Main wheel bay was the first parts. 099 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The the nosecone, wings and wing tanks came together. 100 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll have to prime the wingtanks before bedtime tonight. I'm going to use Humbrol for the dayglo Orange, and the last time I used that colour it took some eight layers to get the correct coverage of it. To be continued...... /Bosse
binbrook87
Regarding the dayglo...try a base coat of white and then orange first....then the Dayglo on top. I find that any Dayglo straight over a white primer takes forever to cover as it's very very translucent
Marlin
Thanks for the tip binbrook87 I'll try that. /Bosse
Nikolay Polyakov
It’s seems to be a nice build, Bosse! The kit looks excellent, along with your progress on it. 👍
Marlin
Spasiba Nikolay. It's a great kit, and I'l think it'll be an easy build. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I've got some paint on the Starfighter. As suggester I've put a coat of regular Orange on first. 101 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr When this has dried we'll see if it work better with the DayGlo Orange. To be continued..... /Bosse
Chief Cohiba
Sorry for jumping in late, but definitely will follow. I was always thinking about building a F104G "Sargnagel", but the Italeri 1/32 was just too large and, honestly, too expensive for me. So, will have a look waht can be done in 1/48, the kit looks very fine. I lean back and enjoy the show...

More like the colour that later RAF Gnats had applied when factory fresh. German dayglo was more orange so you may only need a couple of light coats of the Humbrol to brighten the orange base coat. I prefer to use Vallejo model air 71.082 Flourescent Red. It's more orange in colour and being quite thin brushes fairly well too. 👍
Marlin
Thanks again binbrook87. I'll try the Humbrol I got. I have some very old tins of fluorescent Humbrol orange (and yellow) and the newer 207 but if that's to red I might order the Vallejo. /Bosse

Marlin
I don't think Humbrol 207 will be that red. This is a FM Fouga I did some years ago. FM Fouga Marine by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I used Hu207 for dayglo orange on this one. /Bosse

Andy350
Excellent, I will be watching this with interest as I have the same kit coming to the shop on Friday. I will be building stock just before Christmas. Unless the decals are really bad.
