The time is coming when we will have enough aircraft to ensure we can create a full UK airwing - although it remains to be seen if we'll ever have both on deployment with a fixed wing airgroup at the same time? It's taking a while, but we will get there, just so frustrating that the Government refuse to spend the money that's really needed on Defence. Despite automation etc. some things haven't changed since Nelson's day and I dare say scran queues are one of them. 😂 The only time I had a meal on a US Navy ship was on the USS Mount Whitney but as a guest didn't have to queue and the very first time I had a taco. In 2014 I was given a tour of HMS Queen Elizabeth and the WO guide showed us a single tiny dishwasher in the scullery. He said that unless they had one or two more dishwashers he could foresee hundreds of booties having a riot as they queued to drop off their dirty plates and cutlery. Needless to say, QE got extra dishwashing facilities! Having toured one of them and scratchbuilt two 1/350 scale models of them both, I have become very familiar with the design over the past five years and now really like them. Personally, I think they would look much better without the ski-jump but that is a topic that has and will continue to run and run outside of this particular thread.... People said the 22s were ugly when they first appeared, because we were used to Leanders. And look back at some of the contemptuous dismissal of the Harrier when first unveiled... yet it's now widely hailed as a “British design classic” [especially in its best-looking form, the Sea Harrier FRS1]. it wouldn’t be the scran queue that would alarm me; I’m trying to picture cleaning a ship of that size being cleaned up for Captain’s rounds.., especially in 20 years when she’s a but mire “lived-in” Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
