Newbie here (to the forum that is).  Signed up on the forum last year with the intentions of trying to spark the building again........but my lack of motivation over the past year or so has done me in.  Modeling and Photography have been no existent.  Woodworking has been a little here and there.  Been playing a little World of Warships here and there and decided to get a kit, well actually a couple, and see if I can get motivated a bit.

So I am going to be building this kit........guess it's a 1942 version.

The kit instructions call out Mr Hobby Aqueous and Mr Color.  They call out Mr Color 14 for Navy Blue and Mr Color 365 for Deck Blue.    Looks like 365 is Gloss Sea Blue (USN Fighter)..........which seems odd to me, but then again I build planes.  I primarily use Tamiya or Mr Color.  No longer have a local hobby shop so I'll have to order all my paints.  Anyone have any Tamiya Formulas for those two colors...........or any other suggestions?  Not worried about accuracy kit wise, but would like to get colors close.

Might try to do an in-progress build along just to motivate a little.

Thanks!  Hope you don't mind a Yank hanging out and asking questions! 🤣

Yank or not, welcome aboard.

I can't help you directly as I have never tried mixing paints but if you're wanting accuracy with colours, you can't go much wrong with Jamie's work with his range of Colourcoats paints, his stuff is here: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/american/american, you never know @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies may pop along and give you some pointers.

Having the real paint names is always an advantage, so, this site is good for US Navy ships:

http://shipcamouflage.com/usn_ca.htm

...which says that in 1942 Minneapolis was wearing Measure 21 camouflage.

This page on same site gives:

http://www.shipcamouflage.com/measure_21.htm

My bold text below highlights the real names of the two key paints you need.

Quote

Measure 21 - Navy Blue System

Vertical Surfaces:

Navy Blue 5-N  All Vertical surfaces without exception.

Horizontal Surfaces:

Horizontal surfaces, Deck Blue, 20-B.

Wood Decks.

Wood decks except on submarines and carriers shall be darkened to the color Deck Blue.  Deck Blue paint shall be used in lieu of stain for this purpose.

Canvas Covers.

Canvas covers visible from the outside vessel are to be dyed a color corresponding to Deck Blue.

Notes:

The camouflage painting need not be exact or carried into corners.  Small gear, wires, rigging, and areas permanently in shadow, as under boats, etc., need not be painted with the camouflage colors.  There is no objection to exact or careful painting which may be desired for the sake of good appearance at close range.

All bright or shiny objects, no matter how insignificant, shall be painted, covered, or removed.

Glass windows shall be covered or removed, especially during the day in sunny weather, and at night when anticipating searchlight discovery.  Insofar as conditions permit, similar precautions shall be taken on airport lenses.
