Well i think that their business model is based on a demand stimulation instead of having large stocks that have to go at large discount prices like Revell ( platinum editions at almost half of the original retail price)often does ....

And they are not the only ones...

I at the moment like to wait for a year for a Revell kit and fetch them cheaply....

It is a pitty that Hasegawa do not bring us a new kit that often, take for instance their B17 i would skip that one if i came across it..

They would benefit from having the old tool kits redone as the quality of the new tool kits is good..but pricewise buying these in Europe is mostly to expensive ...

It also explains my big stash of new tool Airfix kits😊

cheers, Jan

Well, if a lot of modellers refused to buy at the manufacturer's (distributer, retailer) price, therefore resulting in a loss all round, then it makes good business sense to reduce the production run to that which will sell.  So it's your fault.

This also allows Hasegawa to boost overall sales by bringing out more options in the way of markings, and minor tooling additions, than they could sensibly cram into one box (at another increase in price...)  People will buy the new kit where they might not buy, or even be aware of, specialist transfer sheets.

I welcome the re-issue of the B-25H (which goes for near extortion rates on evil bay when one can find it)

I did pretty well on these purchases from ModelsForSale recently:

1 xHasegawa 1/72 00709 B-25J Mitchell 486th Bomb Squadron £20.00

1 xHasegawa 1/72 00732 PBJ-1H Mitchell US Marines £20.00

That is also true..

I for instance won’t mind buying a kit at retail price, but because i know that they will be sold at very low prices by some company’s i will wait a year or so as i have enough stash...

So when company’s decide to make more than they would sell in a year and dump the stock at way too low prices than the race to the bottom is also to blame on themselves..

I don’t blame Hasegawa for doing small runs and creating some demand but please retool some  of these molds....

cheers, Jan

The Hasegawa B-17 is not a bad kit. It certainly drew praise when it was released in the  ...um... 1970's.  It is a product of it's time with minimal internal detailing. The street price in Japan is the equivalent of US$27.50 versus about US$35.75 for the new tool Airfix kit

For me, the difference in price is a no-brainer and I'd get the Airfix kit; the Hasegawa kit representing an aircraft with the same block number with the staggered waist gun positions and the Cheyenne tail gun position

Revell's B-17G is available for a couple of bucks less than the Airfix kit

Another F-14B is good and all, but VF-103? AGAIN?! And the only bonus is a patch? Where's VF-32 OIF bird, VF-41 OEF A-bombcat or VF-14 80th Anniversary scheme A-Tomcat?

I guess their answer will be something like "not Jolly Rogers, sorry"

Strange that they didn't release any Tokyo 2020 Olympics tie-ins like a Blue Impulse F-86 ( flown during the 1964 Olympics).

Maybe at the Shizouka show in May for the coming months which will coincide with the Olympics.

NOW CANCELLED
