Courageous
Morning guys, As I winkle my way through building up my destroyer stash for that rainy day, how can I get myself a battle class? Destroyers are a sideline from my usual stuff and because of that, I build them in 1/700 scale only. As far as I can tell, no kit exists in this scale, so can I cut and shut other kits or am I looking at a scratch build? TIA. Stuart
davecov
Although a 1/600 conversion, I have an Airfix Magazine article on how to make a Battle Class Destroyer using the Airfix HMS Daring and HMS Cossack kits. It should still be of use to you as it does explain the difference between ships of the class: http://www.davecov.net/modelling/reference/airfixmagazinearticles/pdfs/Airfix Magazine Guide 7 - Battle Class Destroyers.pdf BTW, the rest of the warship articles I have online can be found at: http://www.davecov.net/modelling/reference/airfixmagazinearticles/pdfs/article_pdf_list.htm HTH Dave
Phil Gollin
Well, it depends on whether a flyer counts as definite, or not. A company, Ostrich Hobbies, has "announced" various resin kits, including a couple of Battle Class ; Supposedly these are ; TN700001 Renown 1918 TN700003B HMS Barrosa (D68) Battle class Destroyer TN700003D HMS Agincourt (D86) Battle class Destroyer TN700007 HMS Tiger C20 TN700021 HMS Amethyst Black Swan-class sloop TN700022 Furious half carrier TN700030 HMS Unicorn TN700056 HMS Argonaut (F56) TN700069 USSR Kronshtadt-class battlecruiser TN700115 HMS Leander F109 We will see. . .
Courageous
@davecov, thanks for the links, should be useful one way or another. @Phil Gollin, thanks for the heads-up to the 'possible' kits, would save a lot of hassle but having never heard of the company, don't know how accurate they'd be. zed
There is a kit of the Battle class in 1/700 made by HP Models. HP models do not sell them any more, but they are freely available on the secondary market, indeed I bought three just the other week. There are pretty nice and come in both 1942 and 1943 versions. If you are interested, let me know and I may be able to source one for you. Graham

Stuart Stuart they've already released a new HMS Vanguard in 1/700 which has been very favourably received. Ostrich Hobby seem a good bet.
