1/72 AZ Model P-51C Mustang "Lucky Leaky II"

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

here's my 1/72 AZ Model P-51C Mustang “Lucky Leaky II”, coded SX-M, of the 352nd Fighter Squadron,  353rd Fighter Group.

She was one of the later production series with the 'dorsal fin' filet.

Based in England, she crashed due to engine failure on May 2, 1945.

I built straight from the box using AZ Model decals.

These did not perform as good as usual, being brittle.

Some pieces simply broke off the surface, most notably on the US Insignia on the right hand side of the fuselage.

The model was painted in various shades of Alclad II over a gloss black basecoat.

I found it pretty difficult to match the yellow spinner to the decal color; it took several attempts of mixing various yellow and orange paints to achieve the result.

The black spinner stripes were masked with White Tamiya tape.

Hi My Friend Roman!!!

Congratulations again for this new build!!!

Seem you got a nice Naturale Metal  Silver finishes Fever, and really like what I am watching from your bench in these last builds you have shared. In this case, like a nice colour combination in all the bird, the scheme maybe would look simple for many but for me, is great. Without a doubt, a really great effort in this great build.

Thank you very much for sharing.

Cheers,

Luis Alfonso

Excellent build, were there any problems with the kit ? I’ve got a couple in the hoard.

Thanks for your feedback, Wulfman.

No problems encountered, apart from the decals, which were unusually brittle.

Great little kit.

Hi Roman,

a question: does this kit come with the stabndard canopy too? I ask because if so I would get one as I need a standard canopy B with the fillet.

Thanks.

Not this particular boxing, but AZ Model have several other versions with the regular canopy (which are just as good):

Yes, they do, but I was hoping to avoid buying two kits for one build. I need the fin fillet too.
