JohnHaa
Dear Modellers, As you already have noticed, I like many kinds of aircraft, especially the lesser known and prototypes. Here I like to present you an example of such an one- off plane. I build this one long ago, when I had just started building models in scratch. This one is mostly done in solid wood, only the smaller parts and tail feathers are in plastic. I did not realise that this model was a tailsitter, too late to ad some lead in the nose, so I had to improvise a tail strut. 🙂 For the history of the real plane have a look here : https://www.hhkits.com/the-ugly-dackling-yokosuka-r2y1-keiun/ I hope you like the photographs of this special aircraft. With kind greetings JohnHaa
RadMax8
Very interesting concept, and excellent model! Looks like a kit, rather than a scratch built masterpiece. Thanks for sharing!
Greg Law
Very nice scratch built plane. I like the way you handled the tail sitting issue. It doesn't look out of place.
Toryu
Already admired some time ago on AoJ - great job again John. The tail support is a very smart idea.
Spitfire31
Beautiful work. Wood, as the basic material for a model – isn't it sensitive to variations in temperature and moisture? Is there a risk of cracks and warping? Kind regards, Joachim

JohnHaa
Hello everybody, Thank you for your kind comments ! Joachim, like you, I expected some problems with the wood too. Some models are quite old and till now I do not see any issues, no warping or cracks. Only with one model I found some minor cracks in the putty at the wingroot/fuselage aeria. Some putty and sanding took care of that. What also helps, I think, I always put on 4 layers of primer with sanding in between. That gives a smooth surface and seals the wood for moisture. And important, keep the models out of the sun, safe in a showcase. :-) Regards, JohnHaa

Looks like something MPM should have done in 1/48 scale, but didn't! Outstanding workmanship, John! Mike
