I'd really like to see some aircrew/groundcrew figures from the 50s and 60s preferably not in 'action' poses.  When you see photos of aircraft on flightlines etc there are often a couple of bods sort of standing around as opposed to running, waving or doing something.

Preiser do a set in 1/72 & 1/48 that can be made to look quite convincing - they are rather pricey though.

Of course.  They are probably mentally pre-planning how they are going to unbend 'their' aircraft when the pilot gives it back.

Correct!

I think an interesting but busy diorama could be a scenario based around offering up a Blue Steel to the aircraft although a lot of the GSE would be specialised and have little use elsewhere.

No offense, but to who's modeling prayers are you referring?  Certainly not mine.  I can think of any number of other kits that I'd sooner see materialize well before this one.  Honestly, the Vulcan would not even place on any list of mine.

So is this modelling democracy......... Everybody gets what nobody wants?

Personally I'd welcome a brand new state of the art Vulcan. Granted it will not be everyone's cup of tea, but that can be said of EVERY new release from EVERY manufacturer. Someone somewhere will be disappointed, whether it be the wrong scale, the wrong variant or in the wrong markings.

Would I have wished for a different subject, yes. Will I still be buying the Vulcan, most definitely yes.

I wouldn't want to be a manufacturer for a Kings ransom, however this does show that they do listen to modellers.

Thanks.  Yes, I'd seen these.  Definitely the most convincing ones I've seen.  A quick repaint would do the job.

That's a handy set of figures that I could certainly do with, but crumbs, are they expensive!

Whilst the New tool Vulcan (fully expected after the Valiant and Victor kits) is most welcome I can understand the frustrations!! I was hoping for a 1/32/1/24 Spitfire PRXIX or 1/350 HMS Queen Elizabeth....  unfortunately Airfix have yet to enter the 1/32 Aircraft area.....

I think you are confused sir!  The groundcrew are always doing something...   ...quite what is another matter!

Oh! Would it be thinking about the next available chance to grab a sausage banjo and a cuppa from the NAAFI?

Airfix will never do 1/32nd scale aircraft as their large scale always has been 1/24th..

Why would Airfix ever want to do 1/32nd?   There are thousands of aircraft in this scale already by a multitude of manufacturers!!   They  may not make Airfix money but Airfix can certainly make money choosing the right subjects in 1/72 and 1/48th. Plus the odd 1/24th scales.

To include some Liney's in various poses such as pushing the Houchin into position, carrying out a percussive adjustment on "x" piece of equipment or just scratching their heads wondering just how the aircrew just managed to break the groundcrew's precious charge!  Bound to be a winner!

Yeah a couple of lineys snorting liquid oxygen trying to get rid of that awful hangover from a heavy nights beer intake (probably armourers!)...Seriously a nice fuel tanker, the odd mini car, Land Rover etc....Come on Airfix.

How do you tune a sausage banjo?

:coat:

Trevor

Fine tuning can be achieved with a splash of Ketchup or Daddies Brown, depending on your preference 🙂

i wonder how many of us who own a few of the older kit will rob these intake covers to cover the intakes on the old tool

Airfix could probably turn a tidy profit just by releasing sets of the intake covers for use on the older kit.

Apologies for the diversion and a possibly stupid question, but I take it from this recommendation that appliance white works well on a large flat surface: would it also be suitable for the underside of a 1/72 Skyhawk? I ask this because I can imagine a paint that is designed for something on a domestic scale to spray on quite fiercely and clog up the nooks and crannies of a small model.

See if you can find a white plastic primer, rather than gloss white.  The spray seems to be finer.

Bu pure coincidence I have used this on a 1/72 Skyhawk this weekend. Use a number of fine coats, tather than one single coat which is bound to run.

I was at Telford today, saw the prototype and had a long chat with one of the Airfix guys who has been working on the new kit. It looks stunning and the engineering looks impressive too. It should be available from November next year and I reckon it will sell by the bucket load

Well done Airfix!

A new Vulcan is most welcome here. I do have the older one(still in the box);but, a new one to go with the Valiant, and Victor is a perfect trio. Now if Airfix would offer the B-45 Tornado(if I have the designation and name correct) that would be nice.

I don't know about that,  groundcrew sitting around drinking a brew seems fairly ubiquitous....  :)

November?! That's hell of a lead in time!

I will try and build a couple at least, so many options and schemes, a 617 wraparound being my favourite.
