thorfinn
This is Dragon's fairly ancient Sovremenny class Russian destroyer, with the addition of the always-useful Gold Medal Models photoetch set. Markings from the kit decal sheet are for #743 Stoykiy ('Steadfast'), which Google tells me was launched in 1985, and decommissioned in 1998. I've always thought the lines of Soviet-era warships are right up there with German WW2 battleships for the (for lack of a better term) 'lethal elegance' of their appearance...and the Sovremenny class seemed the clearest embodiment of that aesthetic. Don't seem to see many of these completed, these days. Hope you enjoy. 22

I found out (after the fact, naturally) that she didn't wear the '743' number until 1993...should have been the post-Soviet style flag. Ah, well.... But I do appreciate the kind words. Orion
Hello Thorfinn, Thanks for sharing this beautiful lined warship with us. Surprised to see, that it was laid off after only thirteen years of service. That is a very expensive joke for the taxpayers. Regards, Orion / The Netherlands.
spruecutter
Very nice work. I agree with your description of 'lethal elegance'. She looks very purposeful.
Chewbacca
Agree with the comments above. Having flown up against several of these vessels (and hoped to never meet one in anger with those terrifying SSN22 missiles!), you've captured her shape beautifully. That's typical though of many navies of the period given the changing political situation. The Russians had it worse than most though with their economy being unable to support the large cold war navy it had built up. The Royal Navy paid off all of our Batch 2 Type 22 frigates in the late 1990s/early 2000s with operational lives of between 12 and 15 years
