Thanks guys.

Actually it is not a bad looking machine. Oddly enough, I picked up a book from a charity stall a week ago - it is about a US destroyer escort during the last year of the war in the Pacific and the author mentions them being attacked several times by Frances planes off Okinawa, both with torpedos and bombs. It seems it was more active than I thought. The wheels and doors are on as is the pitot tube, and I should get the yellow stripes on the props today.

Later. Props are done and if the paint is dry then I may get it sprayed Saturday.

As I do not have the luxury of a “man cave” I have to airbrush in the house, which was not ideal when I was using enamel paints. I have a spray booth but it takes a while to set up and will not cope with large kits such as the Shackleton I built a few months ago. Fortunately, now I am using mostly acrylic paint my wife has agreed that I can spray under the cooker hood in the kitchen (not as smelly as cooking a curry), but that too has its problems.

This weekend I was hoping to spray the Frances but my wife was having one of her cooking/baking sessions, and then there is the problem of the “Hairy Hooligans”

Our previous cats were not bad, but this pair are young and inquisitive. Also, contrary to what you may read in pet books/articles, they actually like tap water, chemicals and all. In fact they love drinking it direct from the tap, which involves crossing the hob where I do my spraying!

Fortunately they were out this morning so I finally got it done.

I will wait a few days and see if I can get any outdoor pics, as the green looks too dark in artificial light. It has worked out better than I hoped, though on reflection I seem to have slanted the wheel legs a bit too far forward. There is always something you could have done better in this hobby - at least my version of it!

  • PeterB changed the title to Yokosuka P1Y1 Ginga (Milky Way) aka Frances***FINISHED***

OK I am calling this one finished. Other than the error with the wheel legs it has come out pretty well, and I took advantage of a short dry spell to get some pics in the gallery.

Now for the other 3, 2 of which might just be done before the Nordic GB starts.

Thanks for watching.
