Hey @Cliff7474 I recently bagged one of these for the middle of the bench...

...it is a lovely soft light and almost daylight in it's quality.  It doesn't seem to cast harsh shadows either.

Finally - sitting on top of the spray booth - I have one of these...

This was only a fiver and shining through the translucent booth cover it gives a very good spread of light.

I hope one of these will be good for you.

Cheers - Steve

I have a lamp akin to the black one that Steve shows, but I've fitted a 14W LED globe, with a colour temperature of 6000K (daylight). Very white, VERY bright. Great for all closeup tasks. Doesn't get hot, either.

Many years ago I had one of those magnifying lamps - useless. I found that I had no depth perception through the single lens, and that was back when I could actually see what I was doing! YEMV, as I'm sure others have found that it works for them.

I managed to find a good deal on a Luxo LS-1E task lamp 5 years ago. With a daylight (5000K) 1600 Lumen LED bulb, it has turned out to be the the ideal lighting.

I use  an OptiVisor to overcome my, um, age-related vision challenges. I usually rely on a #5 lens plate (2.5x, 8in focal length), with a #10 (3.5x 4in focal length) for extra-fine work.

Never skimp on the light source!

I used to have a Shesto/Lightcraft daylight task light, but I regularly had to change the tubes in it...

I think LED is the better was, The Daylight Company have a few task lights in their range,

I now have this one https://www.amazon.com/Industrial-Task-Lamp-European-Style/dp/B015GETB2M but it's for US/Japanese voltage...
