Persian Thunder...1/48 Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter, Imperial Iranian Airforce

Recommended Posts

After the IIAF T-33 is finished (gonna post it in RFI tomorrow), my father starts the next IIAF project.

Because it still takes some time until the first ever 1/48 decals for an IIAF F-5E are released by Hi-Decal, we decided my dad should do an imperial F-5A using the Kinetic kit with Printscale decals.

Nice choice as usual!

How are the decals?

Try them before....

Not tested them yet, read different opinions about them. They are very thin and tend to fold/wrap....we'll see.

Good luck anyways!

Rarely seen scheme, and I like it !

Great to see your next IIAF project starting. These F-5As are really attractive with their big TFB-3 Shahrokhi badge!:speak_cool:

The Print Scale instructions don't show it, but the black walkways on the wing are of course applied, as well as small roundels on the left-upper and right-under wing positions only.

As a small footnote it is worth mentioning that 3-417, together with several other aircraft (5 NMF and eight camouflaged F-5As as well as one F-5B and a supporting C-130)  visited Sharjah (UAE) in March/April 1967. There the IIAF "Silver Tigers" successfully performed a series of public demonstrations. Curiously, for this international event the aircraft had their roundels and title IIAF deleted ( the tail flag, TFB-3 badge and serials remained unchanged)

I can't wait to see the progress on the "Silver Tiger"

Nice subject. I remember as a kid being completely confused by the markings in the Airfix 1/72 kit - I knew they weren't Italian but had no idea what they were...🙄

both wing tip parts are the same, they don´t consider the wing shape, so some sanding to make the "wrong" part fit
