GWH P-61A Black Widow "The Virgin Widow" Saipan 1944

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I would like to introduce my Great Wall Hobby P-61A.

The kit is some kind of Mr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde... Some parts are great, some parts are not. You have to take your time when assembling, it´s ab bit tricky closing the fuselage.

You can see my attempt doing this kit here: pk76scalemodeling.blogspot.com

Please let me know your thoughts about my built.

Cheers

Peter

That's a great looking Widow. Especially the black finish is superb. I wish I had the time to build one among my many other modelling ideas...

Looks nice!  One "constructive criticism" observation: I find your "frame" on the photos a bit busy- the first time it made a nice lead in to your presentation, but it distracts from the model itself as I scroll down, especially because I then see the same thing above and below each picture as they stack.  The more so because white background on photo and white background on website all blends together.

Superb finish on this well worn beast.

How did you achieve the realistic chipping effect on your model. Looks great.

I see we both ran into the same problem around the front end though 😉

Nice build. Why the clear nose?

They all had clear noses. It’s the fiberglass. Some didn’t have them painted over so as to not have the paint interfere with the radar. But underneath all the painted noses was the same material. Semi opaque fiberglass.

Very nice indeed - beautifully presented too!

A fascinating subject to me.

One day I just might buy that Hobbyboss 1/72 kit (that's more my size).

Thanks for inspiring me (though my Wife won't be pleased if I bring home another kit).🙄

Awesome P-61. The paint and weathered job are well done. Which one would you recommend more, the one from HobbyBoss or the GWH one?

If you want an accurate model then the GWH kit is the only choice.

Ok, thank you, may ask again, why the Hobbyboss is not recommend? I am asking coz some modelers saying that the airbrakes, flaps or other airlerons on the GWH one are in wrong shape.

This is really amazing beast.

You mastered overall black finish, and turn in general boring look to dynamic and realistic one.

Great work

I've done the HobbyBoss one and it was an awful kit to build. I'm not fussed about which one is the most accurate, but there were so many problems with the kit it made it quite an unpleasant experience.
