At Roc ities !! Blackburn Roc # 1

Recommended Posts

Hello Dears,

Well the plan was and still is to present her on a tiny diorama...

So here's the beast .... Diorama will start after SMW... Since there still is a second Roc to complete....:rofl2:

Let's go to Lee-on-Solent in May June 1940 !

IMG_20191024_235232

The squadron is 778 NAS, a training Squadron that found itself on frontlines at the time...

IMG_20191024_235427

As there has been attacks from the Luftwaffe , the poor Roc has been used as a AAA battery... See...

72627073_2762361200441651_7363927746335997952_o

This pic is from Gosport... It has make me sweating but everythings are right now !!

IMG_20191024_235323

The Rocs were disposed at the corners of the NAS and were constantly manned !

We don't know at the point if they ever shoot german aircrafts in that way but !!

IMG_20191024_235346

Paints are Alclad and Life colors ones !

The kit itself is in bad need of putty and sanding...

IMG_20191024_235413

I cut her a lot for the lowering of the 2 decks, cutting the transparencies was .... Dicey !!

IMG_20191024_235307

So comments and advices are welcome !!

Looks lovely. A great finish.  I look forward to seeing your diorama.   Ah, the Blackburn Roc.  The only aeroplane which was more useful on the ground than in the air!

Great work CC.  Love the finish.

I think every once should have a Roc / Skua in their collection....

Thanks Grey !!

That's a truth well told, now I must find a 3rd Roc...😜

They are ugly looking things but with hard work and a few beers during the build, she scrubs-up rather well.

Hopefully I'll see you and your builds at SMW.

Now have a beer.

Stuart

Thanks Stuart !!

I got 2 blue Chimay, but I'll save one for you at SMW !

But a Roc is not ugly by no means !!

Let's say as it stand for the Barracuda, a living proof of the British sense of humor !! :rofl2:

Nice build of a quirky, archetypical British flop. How we expected our brave young airmen to fight in these is beyond me! At least the Defiant had decent engine. It does have a strange charm though and at least the Skua was successful briefly as a dive bomber.

Your build looks pretty good to me - not an easy kit to build by all accounts. I do have one to build myself and I may well have a go at it with your build as inspiration.

Cheers

Nice one CC. I don't know if you have knowledge of English Pantomime, but Cinderella has three ugly sisters.

So we have the Barracuda, the Roc, and any suggestions for the third? Something French, perhaps?

The Roc is delightfully beautiful compared to the Avro Bison (shudders dramatically).

Can't wait to see it in the dio.
