Mozzy19
With work on my HMCS Snowberry having ground to a halt over the summer, I decided I needed to have a simpler build. To that end, I pulled Tamiya’s 1/48 kit out of the stash which also had an Eduard zoom cockpit and a few other goodies in the box. Here’s my work so far: And that brings you up to date. Any comments welcome, Sean

Mozzy19
Got the landing gear painted and assembled. I’ve drilled the lightening holes through the mudguard supports which has really improved their appearance for such a simple modification. It all needs weathered before it’s glued into the nacelles. Speaking of which, they have a really nasty seam at the rear of the undercarriage bays which will need to be addressed Sean
Thom216
Great work on the gear. The lightening holes really make a difference. And as they are, those gear look like a pair of unfinished motorcycles!

Mozzy19
Moving on to one of my favourite parts of building models. The decals. I like how they bring the colours together and give the model an identity. The landing gear has been weathered and matte coated. It’s still dry fitted at the moment, I’ll glue it all when I’ve finished the decals which should hopefully be tomorrow Sean
Thom216
I like the choice in scheme. A lot different from the usual camo patterns, and quite attractive at that.

Work on this particular Mosquito is very nearly complete, just 4 more parts and a little bit of paint and it’s there. It think I may need to retrieve the bomber version I have in the loft tomorrow... Mozzy19
Following up on the success of the previous Mosquito, I started work on the B.Mk IV. This one is going to be wheels up, bomb doors open with the navigator in his bomb aiming position. I may experiment with one or two of the bombs being posed just after release, but we shall see about that. I have a question regarding the radio and navigation equipment and whether KB195 had the Gee navigation equipment installed. Sean
Dave Swindell
Sean, if the profile is correct, the forward whip aerial looks good for Gee. The aft shorter aerial would be VHF R/T
Mozzy19
Thanks Dave, I’ll do a bit more research on it but I foresee some scratch building in my future. Sean
Mozzy19
Bit of progress to report. I’ve added a bit of detail to the radio and built a basic representation of the Gee navigation equipment. I also added some cabling using lead wire and some pipe work in the bomb bay using plastic rod. I’ve also started butchering a pilot from Revell’s pilot and ground crew set so that he can be in the prone position. Sean
Crimea River
Quick work indeed. My FB VI is taking forever! Looking good though.
Dave Swindell
13 hours ago, Mozzy19 said: I’ve added a bit of detail to the radio Nice detail Sean, but not appropriate for a Gee equipped Mosquito. Tamiya provide the correct setup in their 1:72 NF Mk.XIII/XVII kit. The kit radios represent a T1154/R1155 setup with the twin aerial leads to fin and port tailplane as per profile of HS*F above There wasn't room in the cockpit for this and Gee, as the Gee receiver sat on the rear shelf in place of the T1154, and the Gee display unit was placed at an anglebehind the pilot's seat facing to stbd and wouldn't be visible if the R1155 was mounted on top of it. Radio fit would most likely be TR1133 or TR1143 fitted in the aft fuselage and controlled from a remote unit mounted on the port cockpit wall below the throttles. This had 4 push buttons to select channels, same as fitted to single seat fighters eg Spitfire MkIX. There are several threads here discussing Gee fit in Mosquito's, including Dorothy in my sig line and a current build:- Dave
Mozzy19
Thanks Dave. I now remember reading some of those topics and seeing the diagrams/pictures of the Gee layout. I just had a brain fart moment and got carried away glueing things together I’ll see if I can knock up the receiver unit tonight and modify my existing work. Mozzy19
I’ve spent a couple of hours working on the cockpit tonight. I removed the kit supplied radio equipment and set about scratch building a rudimentary representation of a Gee receiver. I’ve also added the empty radio mount that can be seen in some pictures. It is rather overscale, but I’m going more for representation than accuracy Sean
Thom216
Some nice additions to the cockpit.
Mozzy19
Not much done recently. I did get some very nice, if rather expensive Rexx exhausts though. They’re designed for the Revell kit so some modification of kit and exhausts is needed, but they’re leaps ahead of what I could achieve. Thom216
Nothing says you have to use them on the kits they say to!
Mozzy19
I’ve been busy with other things this last week, but I have managed to complete the exhaust modifications on the engine nacelles as well as completing both wings. The navigator also received some modifications. Sean
Mozzy19
The cockpit is now pretty much complete. I need to seal the wash in and add the bomb sight. Now I need to turn my attention to the crew and the bomb bay. Sean
Mozzy19
I’ve managed to get the fuselage halves glued together as well as adding the internal bracing for the stand. The navigator required some fairly extreme surgery to make him fit into the nose. The poor fella is now in two pieces I realised after I’d glued the halves together that I’d forgotten to put the seat belts on the navigators seat Sean
Mozzy19
Glazing is now on. Next step is masking then some seam removal/gap filling. Sean
