Matt P
I recently came across a company in Wheatley Hill, Co Durham called Carbusonic, who specialise in ultrasonic cleaning products amongst other things. Any way, they sell their own brand of Plastic Melt glue, very similar in Tamiya thin cement. I have tried it today and it works really well. The biggest advantage though is that it costs £10.99 for 250ml as opposed to around £3.99 for 40ml of Tamiya glue. Comes in a plstic bottle complete with a small syringe that you can use to either decant or refill your empty Tamiya bottle It is available with a search on ebay, Amazon or direct from the company at https://www.carbusonic.co.uk/product/plastic-cement-weld-glue-perspex/ I have tried it on some scrap plastics and it works really well if used in the same capiliary type method as the Tamiya stuff (i.e. press the two parts together then run the glue along the join with a brush). spruecutter96
Thanks for the tip, Matt. In terms of price, this one is a real no-brainer. Chris.

PhoenixII
So the cost of the Carbusonic product is £10.99 + £2.20 VAT which means the price is £13.19 Inc. VAT. for 250ml Tamiya extra thin is £3.99 Inc. VAT or £3.33 exclusive of VAT for 40ml so times either by a factor of 6 and you get £23.94 inclusive or £19.98 exclusive (moot point, as VAT has to be payed at 20%, the product is aimed at industry, therefore more than likely, VAT registered making it reclaimable) for a slightly smaller quantity (240ml) ergo: - Carbusonic £13.19 Inc. VAT for 250ml Tamiya £23.94 Inc. VAT for 240ml Me? I'm all for saving over £10.50+ while knowing there are some out there that can't justify spending that amount........just sayin.... Matt P
The £10.99 price for the carbusonic includes vat I think so the saving is actually better 👍. On Amazon it is £10 + £3.99 shipping. As they are only 1/2 hour up the road from me I know where I'll be shopping for glue next time (although the 250ml I have is going to last a looooong time!) I'm all for saving, just pointing out it's plus vat And the amount a jar of Tamiya lasts me I'm likely to loose more of the Carbusonic to evaporation at 250ml than I would use over that time at my build rate 😉
Pin
Knowing chemistry helps to save money. https://www.amazon.co.uk/500ml-Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone-99-9/dp/B005Z1K3FG/ref=asc_df_B005Z1K3FG/ Bought a bottle in 2013, still half full 2
