New O-class kit in 1/350

Yesterday, at a show noticed that S&M Models are planning a new kit of Oberon Class subs. 

Perhaps it is an old news.... Sorry then.

Indeed they are. I spoke to S&M at a recent model show and the 1/350 Oberon kit should be ready for SMW 2019 at Telford.

That 1/350 O boat would be nice, I would have to get one of those....went to sea in HMAS Qxley back in the day......regrettably I never qualified for my Dolphins.....I got made PMU subs due to my skin having a nasty reaction the lovely environment that was an O boat at sea...…...so a skimmers life it was for me.

 

A 1/48 Wasp would be the go as well.

Well, that IS excellent news!  These were my dad's boats and I'd like to make one in memory.

The first one will be 1/350 kit... but might not be ready for Telford show - according to Mel at the show last Saturday.

Saw this and I thought it were going to be an "O" class destroyer from WW2.

1/350 would be welcome as you could model a porpoise class as well with the original sonar fit and scribe in the aft torpedo doors.

1/700 seems a bit late considering OKB do two versions already.

Interested in an Oberon, and Boris has his available.  But wanted to see this new one before I commit.  Has there been any update on this?

When I spoke to Mel at the UK Nationals, he was just waiting for them to arrive.

I have a 'Boris' O class and I'll still get one from S&M when they arrive. Any spares you have, you can turn into a P Class.

Yeah, I'm still circling on this as well; still looking to add an Oberon to the stash.

emailed S&M models about an update on the Oberon and he indicated:

"The O Class is due for release in November 

The first production run is completed and is 'In Transit' to me

I am advised that due to the current circumstances this may take longer than usual

So on schedule at this time."

Sadly with Mel of S&M passing, not sure what will happen to the S&M Kit.

I had been waiting for the S&M kit but it may not get completed or released now.

Just pulled the trigger on the Oz Mod kit.  A shame about Mel, the S&M kit is injection molded and I would have preferred to gone that route.  Surely someone will pick up this project (it was imminently due) but I'm sure it will be ages before its resolved.

With this much invested in 1/700 AND 1/350 tooling, I'd be very surprised if this never sees the light of day.  I can just imagine it will take a while.

Not to my knowledge, 1/350 covered by Oz Mod, 1/700 by OKB Grigorov, both resin.
