1/48 AMK USN VF-31 F-14D Super Tomcat "Tomcatters"

Recommended Posts

Calling it done after 18 days of feeling the need for speed. Mostly OOB with resin wheel sets from Def.Model and pilot/AoA from MASTER. Going to add some figures later but I need to get some good sleep first.

  • Fitting is ok - some parts are perfect but some parts you need to sand & putty.
  • Decals are good - thin and touch, just make sure you put more water before you slide them onto your kit.
  • More options - 3 wing options + 3 tailplane position options + open/close spoilers + 3 intake ramp options + 2 nozzle options + 2 nose landing gear options
  • Canopy - choose between Pikachu and Bulbasaur, of course no I am joking. Just choose between 1-pieced molded clear canopy or, clear part with plastic frame which you really save a lot of time on masking.
  • Wide range of ordnance - AIM-54C, AIM-7M, AIM-9M, GBU-12, GBU-16, GBU-38 JDAM, GBU-31 JDAM, LANTIRN pod and TARPS.

Sleep time, baby! 💣🐱

It's because of this:

Really awesome mate, am also looking Allan and Chan Yong Joo too but I don't think Joo will finish in time lol, he spend too much fine detailing like a Swiss watch maker.

Wow!  An impressive model and some really subtle (but noticeable) weathering of the panels.

Where are the figures from?

Nearly didn't get down here - too many pictures!

Lovely model - excellent build and finishing. I can however hear the purists shouting - Tomcats didn't park up with flaps, slats, spoilers, airbrakes etc etc deployed!

Looks a great kit but a lot of extra assembly work in my opinion for something rarely seen except at an airshow. What will the price be when compared to the Tamiya version?

Cheers

Malcolm

Climbing pilot is from Sabre models, front seat candy crush guy is from Reedoak.

This is a sample from AMK so I decided to show everyone what AMK can offer on this kit which including the opened spoilers, compressor nose landing gear, flaps and slats, opened airbrakes and etc.

The price, not sure, maybe you can consult your local distributor about that.

It's a great kit but there're some fitting problems which you really need to get rid of.

Malcolm, I saw one for £66 in the UK, cheaper than Tamiya! Great job on the Tomcat Fishbone - 18 days too?!

Hmmm... I do remember someone somewhere showed a photo of F-14B (is it from VF-101? I forgot) parked with all slats and flaps hanging and airbrakes open during a static display on an airshow. If only I can find the photo...

Great build and I appreciate your showing of what can be done with the AMK kit with the slats, flaps, etc. all out.  It will make for for a very interesting aircraft to display with a lot of visual interest.  I am not a model purist, I am just a lover of aircraft and what you have done here is fantastic!
