Bertie McBoatface
This is a strange thread. I'm sure more of these models would get seen if they were individually presented. How am I to comment on all of them? Well done?
Toryu
@Bertie McBoatface This started when a number of airfield vehicle modellers added their exhibits to my original post. The purpose now is to demonstrate what vehicles are available and what you can do with them to enhance your dios. To look for them in individual threads would need you to be in an advanced state of retirement (and boredom). The many visitors and contributors prove that there seems to be a certain interest. If you'd like to comment on individual exhibits you could 'follow' the thread to get a heads-up every time there is a new one posted. Cheers, Michael
dcrfan
Those of us that make airfield vehicles not endless kits of Tiger and Panther tanks probably are considered to be strange by mainstream vehicles modellers 🤪 1 4

dcrfan
1/48 M5 2 ton tractor crane which is mounted on a International Harvester T9 tractor. The build is a major kit bash of two Tamiya G40 bulldozers. First the tracks were extended and same size sprocket and idler fitted. The modifications to make a TD 6. And started on the crane mounting. I've also just finished a 1/48 scale US Navy Mk 6 Bomb and Torpedo Skid. It is mounted on small tracks that could be fitted to a range of bomb carriers and small ordinance cranes when they are used on soft ground. The scratch build used the tracks off a 1/100 scale Sdkfz 251 halftrack. Edited February 14, 2023 by dcrfan
Toryu
This is fantastic, man! First-rate scratch-building. I wish I could do such elaborate modelling to expand my collection of Pacific airfield vehicles. A very worthy addition to this thread. Thanks, Michael
dcrfan
An update on the ever growing MT section of the RNZAF Servicing Unit on an airstrip somewhere secret in the SW Pacific WW2. The locomotive and construction equipment captured from the Japanese on the left and a couple of NZ Army visitors beside them. All the rest is RNZAF issue, lend lease or begged, borrowed or stolen from the Yanks😋 4

dnl42
I built this Flightpath 1/48 Beaverette Mk.III Airfield Defence Vehicle for the Armoureds Car & Hafltracks GB. The kit is built from PE and cast metal. And here it is with a Tamiya 1/48 Tilly as I built as I worked on fabricating a chassis for Beaverette

Ratch
Here are figures from the Airfix luftwaffe Personnel set. NCO, Luftwaffe, 1940. This ground crew wears the black twill side cap and black cotton drill overalls. Major, Luftwaffe, 1940. The beige one-piece flying suit was issued for summer use. This is a bomber pilot during the Battle of Britain, and Senior Sergeant, Luftwaffe, 1940. This NCO wears the side cap (Fliegermutze) and flying blouse (Fliegerbluse) intended for wear under the flying suit. Originally, the Fliegerbluse was only issued to flying crews, but became popular throughout the Luftwaffe.
dnl42
The Quarter Kit Shop in Paris is a fine source of 1/48, 1/43, and 1/87 kits. I have their M27 conversion for Tamiya's 1/48 CCKW. Also check out MP Originals' CCKW crane conversions at Quarter Kit and BNAModelWorld.

danbuoy
Just realised that I never posted any photos of my GMC airfield tanker in this thread. Its the Hasegawa 1/72 kit, built out of the box except for the added warning flag, and I used a spare set of Airfix USAAF Bomber Resupply set decals so I could do it in 357th Fighter Group markings, from Leiston. The missing "3" off the rear has since been replaced! 20210130_150336 by Dan Hardy, on Flickr 20210130_150358 by Dan Hardy, on Flickr 20210130_150426 by Dan Hardy, on Flickr 20210130_150500 by Dan Hardy, on Flickr 20210130_150514 by Dan Hardy, on Flickr 20210130_150645 by Dan Hardy, on Flickr Edited March 16, 2023 by danbuoy
Toryu
That's a very nice GMC tanker, Dan! Could easily be a larger scale. It looks like floating on an ice floe in the arctic...

Ed Russell
Here are a couple of 3D printed Deutz GPUs which were a common sight on RAAF airfields from the late 1950s to the 1980s. This one is in 1/48 [ and this one is in 1/72 These are commercially available products from Red Roo. Don't worry if it says Sold Out - we will get more. The 1/72 is not yet released at this time and there is a rumour (attention @Homebee ) that it could be done in 1/144.

dogsbody
I question, if I may. I have these old Lead Sled cast metal kits in my stash. I bought them back in the late 80's/early 90's. Has anyone ever released anything similar in plastic/resin? I'm mostly interested in the three on the left, the Humber, the Commer and the Fordson tractor. Mancunian airman
Chris I'm not aware of any of those three being produced in plastic/resin or even 3D as yet . .. I am always on the look-out for any small (4mm) scale vehicles Recently a Hillman Tilly and Crossley 4x4 crash tender have been 3D printed . . .
