Old Aircraft model adverts from 1958.

I've just been reading RAF Flying Review for September 1958 which was given to me by a friend.

Some great articles and the job vacancies for Policemen in Nyasaland etc took me back a bit but what caught my eye were the old model aircraft adverts.

I obviously know Airfix and Revell and remember Eagle models but the others didn't ring a bell, anyone know more about Busch or Lincoln/Hawk?

Anyway I took a few snaps for your reminiscences.

If this is in the wrong forum I trust the mods will move, although I guessed this was the most appropriate.

I know Busch as a manufacturer of model cars and scenery and buildings for model railways. The company still exists in Germany and judging by the logo is very likely the same as shown in that ad. I wasn't aware that they ever made any aircraft kit, good to know.

I remember Lincoln only as a name as thet had long disappeared when I entered the hobby. Lincoln International were based in Hong Kong and made mainly toys but also had a line of plastic kits. I believe they stopped production in the laye '60-early '70s.

The US company Hawk is a well known name and many of their moulds later passed to Testors and can still be found quite easily. Italeri also issued some of their kits. I guess that Lincoln Hawk was simply Lincoln selling Hawk kits in the UK. I recognize the Hawk 1/72 XF-92 in the ad and I'd say the Javelin is also the 1/72 Hawk kit.

Have to say that the competition advertised is quite interesting... £ 100 in 1958 must have been quite some money !

Lincoln kits tooling went to New Zealand and then to Hong Kong, where some kept reappearing under the Kadar name - Kadar being the main company behind many toys from HK In this period and later.  It is worth searching for Lincoln in this forum as at least one appeared recently with more information.

Another German company in this period was Faller, specialising in 1/100 scale.  However I think few if any ever reached eastern Durham in those days.

PS isn't that a Convair 540 not 440?

A pretty good prize!

To put it in context there is a brand new BSA Bantam 175cc motor bike for £122 in the same mag.

It was an issue of RAF Flying Review, purchased at a newstand in Freeport, Texas, at about the same time (possibly that very issue!) that introduced me to Airfix and Frog kits. I was 12 years old.
