Mick4350
Have just purchased the latest edition of SAM ( AUGUST '19 ) and noticed that the magazine still can not get their act together and print it without errors all over the publication ! The article on pages 62-64 is about the Zvezda 1/48 and they spell it "zvesda" and the header at the top of the page describing is repeated on page 86 Of which is incorrect as it should be about the Saab Viggen from Special Hobby. Brand new Editor in place and the stupid and proofreading ability of the editor of this magazine shows he is no better than what was in place before his tenure as the latest editor. It's a shame nobody picks these errors before the magazine is printed and distributed out to the masses.
Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies
Given the volume of criticism Chris is getting for this magazine (that's 3 topics now on this mag since Chris joined and none on any other magazines) one can only presume he's been very successful in seducing forum members wives or something. I think August would have been Chris' first issue. It's October now.
PhoenixII
Jamie @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies, Mick @Mick4350 is out in Oz, guessing the mag is shipped surface rate?

About right. Costs $11.99 here. Apart from buying Airfix as well, that's all much I buy on a regular basis, apart from also buying monthly Modelart Australia. I think the air freight edition is around nineteen dollars.
Mick4350
Another gripe is that under the new leadership of the new editor that the page of what's coming for next months issue has been deleted for this publication, permanently. A bad move in direction I fear as it shows that the editor is out of touch with its readership.
Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies
I'm afraid I don't see any logic in your complaint. If you subscribe to the magazine then you have no real idea what you're going to get over the 12 issues. If you buy off the shelve month to month then you buy any given issue based upon what's in it rather than what it claims the next one will have. The only possible use for a page consumed telling you about next month I can imagine is if it's the entire basis of a trip to the supermarket the whole of the following month. I don't know about you but I tend to need food shopping frequently enough that each month will see me in a shop regardless of what last month's model magazine said.

And nothing by Mike McEvoy and what about the free decal sheets and then there all those colour photographs instead of good old black and white , seriously thinking of self-isolating in the smallest room in the house as a protest and working my way through all the tinned beans and toilet paper I have panic bought !!!!! Paul Bradley
I miss the days of the profiles with different hatchings and shading. I used to spend many happy hours trying to decipher what symbol meant which colour. It was like an adult colouring book. Would be ideal now for those days of self-isolation, Des.... And in the early years the paper was the right consistency too 😖 for when supplies ran low.

ColinChipmunkfan
I have the first 20 years of SAM magazines. I stopped buying them because, among other things I got fed up with articles almost every month on Fairey aircraft particularly the Firefly. I always turned to the Mike MacEvoy pages first and often re-read them. I still use my magazines because they contain a lot of detailed information. I rarely buy any modelling magazines anymore as they seem to be just advertorials with little or no analytical content or depth to them.
Andrew Jones
I always used to buy one or two modelling mags each month depending on the content , but since the current crisis nd lockdown I haven't bought one for three months and can honestly say I haven't missed them . SAM is continuing the 'renaissance' started by GH. I've bought the last five or six issues now. Chris appears to be doing a decent job, although the typos are still there in abundance, possibly due to the amount of contributors who don't have English as their first language. One reason of course why content is mostly pictorial too I guess - makes the mag more 'international' as the masthead now states. Not necessarily a criticism, because the range of subjects and model kits being built is larger than ever. And the reference features are back to their best - possibly a result of getting 'specialists' to write on their subject ( David Johnston on Condor Legion 109s etc etc) rather than have the house 'hack' (Sands, Mason) compile a quick over-view...this costs money of course and I note that the 'new' SAMi (..Scale Aviation Modeller International) has no reference material whatsoever.. Used to skip his aimless ramblings,as they annoyed me no end, and everything he built was bloody gloss!! It was one of the reasons I never warmed to SAM. I guess you were either a SMI or SAM reader in those days. I was firmly in the SMI camp, one of the reasons being, SMI recognized there were scales other than 1/72 for aircraft! I much preferred Icarus' column. Horses for courses I guess Bruce
