guillaume320
Hello everyone, In light of the new HK B-17 being released soon, I’ve been investing some potential finishing options... I’m almost sure to settle on a 94th BG one. Having flown into Rougham (Bury St Edmunds) a few times with the Chipmunk and having visited the little museum there, the choice seems logical. Alas, 94th BG B-17G decals seem to be very rare.... Hopefully the HK kit will make the decal manufacturers get into gear 😀 I’m in no way a B-17 expert, but would like to know if B-17G ‘Ordnance Express’ could be built from the HK kit. Mark Stylings made a profile, number 28 on THIS page... I know there are several types of waist guns configurations and tail turrets etc... Looking forward to comments/suggestions! silberpferd
Well, given the serial number, this plane had unstaggered waist guns positions, and left the factory with the early tail turret, but could have been fitted with a Cheyenne tail turret, as shown on the profile, as many B-17G-45BO had it fitted in the ETO. 72modeler
Interesting! Here are some links to photos/history of 42-97358. The 1st link is to a photo of her crew in front of a B-17F, who were shot down later while flying another B-17G, 42-5901 Superstitious Aloysius, according to references. The 3rd link under the 152nd BS lists a B-17G-45 named Double Dragon as being 42-97358, so what's that about? I think that one was a typo or transposed serial number, as everything I found identified 42-97358 as being Ordnance Express. Best I could do from what I could find in my references and research. silberpferd
In fact, the third link refers to a game, no real units involved here. Laurent
