Silenoz
The archer is a next generation selfpropelled 155mm artillerysysteem develloped by Sweden and Norway. The base is a Volvo A30D 6x6 all-terrain articulated arctic hauler, on which a full-automatic 155mm/L52 gun is placed and an M151 Protector remote controlled machinegun. The armored cabin is resistent against bullets grenade fragments. In the cupola there is a storage for 21 rounds in an automatic magazine. Range is 35km with regular rounds, and with special munition this is raised to 60km (XM982 excalibur GPS controlled rounds). The system is designed for high strategic, operational and tactical mobility, which has a max road speed of 70km/h, ready to fire or to leave the firing position within 30 seconds, which makes counter batteryfire difficult. A sustained firing rate of 75 rounds/h can be fired for 24h, and and intensified firing of 20 rounds in 2.5min or 3 rounds in 15s. There's also the possibility to fire up to 6 rounds with the same impact moment. Crew is 3-4 people. The project was started in 1995, and in 2004 2 prototypes were tested. The first units were ordered in 2008. Basic chassis: and the Archer: the kit: and the parts: all cleaned up and ready to mount, so hopefully some progress soon...
Silenoz
the start: the first 2 parts: in dryfit: nothing is provided to keep the parts in position or at height, so dryfit, measure and add some spacers from the garbage (pouring blocks are ideal): sand to make it fit and dryfit again... Look without glue: and with glue. The blobs are there to act as a filler: CA shrinks a bit, hence the excess. Some sanding later it is ready for a test with some primer: and a total dryfit, pretty large machine, even in 1/72 (the knife is 15cm, the vehicle a bit larger then 20cm...):
Vaastav
Looks quite interesting. The Archer would be like the Caesar howitzer I suppose or the MGS. I will tag along if that is fine.
Silenoz
Welcome, Thx for interest. I suppose these are all in the same segment as for a rapid artillery strike... and similar looking vehicles. So in that way you are completely right. Niall
A comment on Vaastav's post - The MGS is a direct fire weapon not a self propelled artillery weapon like the Ceasar and Archer.
Vaastav
The MGS is mounted on a truck (atleast the indian one is) and is supposed to be used in a mobile role. We also inducted the K9 Vajra & M777 ultralight howitzers.

Niall
In relation to my previous post, I've only seen the abbreviation "MGS" refer to the American Stryker with the 105mm gun.
Vaastav
The MGS is a new Indian gun system so I suppose it would be a bit obscure.
