Came across this on Ebay......

I've wanted a plastic kit of this ever since the film came out in the 80s but whether it's any good though who knows.   Looks about average for 1/144 scale.   ..

Don't know their postal charges but Hobby Search are currently charging about $32, list price is around $41.

Sure, very expensive for a little Model Kit ( 1/144)

And we need this Firefox on 1/72 scale ...🤨

We need a Firefox in 1/48th scale!  😁

I was wondering about size, so looked it up. One source says film mock-up of the fictional Firefox was 44' span and 66' long, another source says just over 43' and 63.  So that makes it pretty much the same size as a Foxbat or an F-14 with the wings slightly spread.   Bigger than a Phantom, smaller than a Vigilante.

IIRC it was made from a 66 foot radio antenna mast, the undercarriage is from an F-4 Phantom and it had a Volkswagon engine for power. Before building it they were originally going to paint a couple of Saab Viggens black.

All tv/movie related items are relatively expensive as they have to cover the cost of the licensing fee in the cost of the kit, look at the price of star trek kits for instance .

If it's really 16" long (seems a bit of a round figure) then that particular kit is based on a 64' full size length.

I think its a little over 16" which would put it in step with the 66' full scale mock up of the Mig-31 Firefox. It's a lovely kit in terms of shape, parts and general engineering. It's only let down are the lines (trenches) that are far too deep, though this is relatively simple to rectify with a little filler.

Only on high profile subject matter.

Anigrand have had Firefox kits in 1/144, 1/72 and 1/48 in their range for years and they are all still available.  They advertised a couple Star wars kits for little over a month a few years back before getting a C&D order from Lucas. Two things we can glean from that:

- Anigrand don't do licensing.

- The rights owners of Firefox don't care.

For the record Anigrand's 1/72 Firefox is the same cost of this kit in 1/144. Just saying, like.

Very likely correct. Firefox  the movie was a Malpaso production, Clint Eastwood's company. If it were a major studio theirIP people would probably have cared enough at least to licence it for a nominal amount, or whatever they though they could get that wasworth the cost of the correspondence and staff time.

Of course another big difference between that and Star Wars is Star Wars IP continues to appear in new productions, so it is necessary for the rights owners to maintain control over their stuff. No-one's going to be making any more Firefox movies, so it doesn't really matter from the point of view of protecting current and future productions

Found a review/build article in that there Japanese, so I ran it through the Google mincer in case anyone fancied a look:

The price is a bit of a kicker, but then I suppose they probably don't expect to sell thousands and have to recoup costs

Looks very interesting and I hope it becomes a precursor for larger scale styrene models of the subject. Main concern with all of these remains the panel lines (trenches). The lines on the studio models and full scale replica were imperceptible so it would be good if this were better represented. I'll be puttying all of the lines on my Anigrand kit but I'll also be doing my best to replicate the 'aztecing' paint job.
